So i lowered my s14 on coilovers… now theres VERY little gap between the coilover and the tire…and heres the deal:
When i brake… i hear a rubbing sound coming from the front end… but it’s only when i brake… Is it possible for the tire to rub the coilover only during braking, or would it rub all the time if that was the problem…
Also, my brakes are awful and i have to replace them, so is that a more likely cause of the sound?
Last question, im thinking about getting some 8mm spacers… and i need to do an alignment. Should i put the spacers on before the alignment (will it affect it at all?)
First locate where the rubbing sound is coming from, are you sure its from the tire? Can you find rubbing marks anywhere?
Spacers wont change your alignment.
It was fine when i first lowered it, no sound… I know its not rubbing the fender. At night i played around with the dampening a bit… went from 16 to 14 (turns) in the front, with 15 in the back (32 way adjustable megans) then i noticed it.
So if its for sure not rubbing the fender, i dont know where else the sound could come from other than tire rubbing against the coil… or the brakes.
Does the coil move closer to the tire at all while braking? I dont think it does but im not educated in this at all aha…
Hopefully in the morning ill take the tires off and look for any rub marks…
its bugging me though
I think its rubbing the coil. I had to grind out just a millimeter out of my stock shocks to clear the rim itself from rubbing my shock. When i upgraded to coils i got a 7mm spacer just so i have more variety of tire widths to run up front. When it rubs it sounds like rubbers rubbing but its really violent and rough feeling coming threw the steering wheel and pedals its definably hitting the coil to feel that much. A fender some people will hardly notice if its even slightly rubbing.
It’s probably rubbing on the plastic inner fender liner. I had to rip mine out. Take the wheel off and loost for rub marks on the plastic fender liner.
when u brake since your stopping movment of your tires the sus will suck in causeing your minimal gap to become no gap at all… check that first… id take the wheel off check for abrasion marks (rubbbing) if none are seen the put a wet sticky slolution(grese maybe) on it and do a brake test then check if the tires have the substance on them as a double check.
Alright so i bought 8mm spacers today… put them on and problems gone. The coils did have some marks so that was probably it…
As for the plastic inner liner… mines not clipped on and hangs down on the drivers side and rubs whenever i turn sharp… but thats a different noise and a quick fix sometime
thanks
