S15 Discussion

Why has this turned into a right hand drive is gay debate? Does no one have any actual information on the car?

Car is good yah.

isnt s15 would be too much over kill by the time it s legal in canada?

we still got quite few years left i belive

1999 was the first year and there willbe 1998 built dates which means 2013 they will start showing up, that’s 13 months away.

as for info on the S15… this is a 240sx forum, the S15 is a 240sx, all tech info was discussed back in 2003 so we can move on to speculating about what it is like to own

Well other than the wow factor and the look of the car, you’ll soon realise it might be better off to own a Kouki(rhd/clean japan car). Friends of mine own both back home, most moving from an S14 platform.
The interior dash isn’t a straight swap and things like wheel clearance in teh rear is less than the S14.
The people that can afford the S15 if and when it comes , those things probably won’t matter.

Then don’t buy a rhd, plain and simple.

I’ll take that as a no, lol. Off to research myself.

Ive had my rhd 180sx for the past 3 years no accidents, if ur a shity driver, not saying u r but i know ppl that dont know how to drive and get into accidents regardless what they r driving, rhd, lhd, a bicycle, and im pretty sure modifying it to be a lhd makes it lose its value. Dont care what ppl do but i think its a shame to change something that makes it unique, like a skyline, everyone that hears skyline automatically thinks rhd, thats what makes it unique.

okay okay ill stop hating… if i have $$$$ to buy a s15 when it lands its rubber in canada ill buy one too… lol
only problem with rhd was a drivethrou by my self anyway lol

I think its fun going thru drive thrus, ppl that work there dont expect it and if u lean close enough to the driver door (rhd) they dont see whos driving. Pop ur head out fast and ull scare the crap out of them loL

I thought it would be 2014?! I know there are a few earlier builds but for the most part it’s January 99 spec models to start (and 15 years makes it 2014)…

I’m planning to import one and I’ve started to import parts as well…

Honestly, whether you’re a good driver or not, driving a car, that was built to be driven on the opposite side of the road doesnt seem like a good idea no matter how you swing it. No matter how safe you are, how long you wait at left hand turns, there’s always going to be that one chance where someone runs a red, or you misread the situation. Maybe it hasnt happened and maybe it wont happen ever to you, but I know a couple guys who are good drivers in my book that have had their cars smoked cause of guys running reds. Yes you may say, “its because the dude ran the red! he’s wrong!”, but youre car may have been spared had you been on the opposite side. I have nothing against righthand drive cars being imported or used on the track. That’s all fine and dandy since theyre cheap, clean, come with goodies etc. etc. But driving a car thats rhd just because its unique sounds like such a fanboy thing to say.

All the right hand drivers on the boards can come out and say that i’m wrong and start arguing and debating with me, but bottom line is, rhd cars were designed for roads where drivers drive on the left hand side of the road. Yes i’m sure there are plenty of rh drivers on the boards who havent had an accident and may go on without ever experiencing an accident, but the statement still stands true. Rhd cars were designed for left hand side driving.

edit: forgot to add, i think your logic is backwards. I think modifying it to be left hand drive would increase its value since more people would see the car as practical. If you had a rhd car and you had the means/money to convert it where it would not be a hardship on you to do so, and you dont for the sake of being unique, thats just fucking retarded. And yes i can appreciate the fact that the process of converting to LHD is considered impractical and i understand why its not done very often. Buying rhd cause its a clean car and has lots of goodies for a bargain price, thats fantastic. Not my cup of tea.

i own two cars right now

both are rhd

BUT

i dont own them BECAUSE they’re rhd

i own them IN SPITE of being rhd

if there were lhd equivalents anywhere near the same price i would gladly swap

as for left turns

its all about the “S” approach at intersections

the way I make left turns, I’m in the exact same position (sometimes better) position to see oncoming traffic than 90% of the lhd drivers I see

this is something that everyone should do anyway, regardless of what side drive their car is… but either nobody gives a fuck or they just don’t know

The “S” Approach is:

While sitting in the intersection waiting to turn, instead of being at a 30degree or 45 degree angle (like most people), you put yourself 100% parallel to oncoming traffic… this allows you to be closer (to see better) without the edge of your car protruding

This is exactly what i mean. FD’s in lhd are easily on average twice the price of rhd ones, the same also goes for supras and clean s13/s14s which also lends to the fact that converting something to lhd will NOT devalue a rhd vehicle.

Cal-soy : Im not gonna argue with u, u got ur opinion and i got mine, no one is wrong here but i agree with some stuff u mention

Back to the car.

Isn’t the sr in the s15 equiped with varible valve timing? I’ve read builds that match the s15 head with s13 180sx blocks. Althought I’m not sure why… whats different about the blocks?

s15 is the nicest looking all round silva. S14 kouki front ends are mean as hell but I’ve always disliked the back end of an s14 imo. I still dig my s13 for its timless classic look but I would do an s15 front end with wide fenders if my car was in rough shape. Fenders are to mint to cover up as is.

I know there are swaps availible for z32 6speed trans on sr20’s. From what I’ve read there reliable up to 500hp. I’m sure it would bolt to the s15 sr as well if you want 6spd and more pwer.

Other than that I don’t know much. Interior looks nice, nice steering wheel. I’d rock one if I was in japan.

cup holders !

z32 tranny bolts up to any SR with an adaptor plate. Pretty common swap for alot of track cars.

What i’d love to own is a LHD conversion s15 varietta! Those are smexy. I know there are some haters out there!

I can’t wait till S15 are legal in Canada…

I’m leaving it RHD…chirp me…It’s not going to be a daily driver. More of a weekend/track car while the weather is nice…

I don’t understand how this became a RHD discussion make your own thread. This is for specs and parts people like for an s15. My S15 will be owned in Japan so its all irrelevant. I am just trying to get solid information on the chassis, engine, aero, aftermarket parts, etc. from people who know. Dylan is the only person who posted physical information on the car. Stop being JDM fan boys or the opposite and posting stupid off topic shit. You’ve all talked and argued this shit to death on jdmrides and shit give it a rest.

Post info or stop posting.
