Sabres allegedly for sale.

you cant take the sabres from buffalo. it just wont happen. to big of a fan base for that to happen. where would they go that would make it any better?

Seriously. We have the highest TV ratings in the country. Where better of a place to have a team?

Keep this in mind. Rumors are Golisano picked up the Sabres for around 20 million. The NHL says selling a franchise for anything under 200 million would send the wrong message, so they think at a minimum a team is worth that. Tommy’s political aspirations are a lot higher than his NHL aspirations and 180 million in profit could buy a lot of political pull.

And Quinn left an escape clause in his denial statement when you read the tsn.ca article…

Quinn added that while the owenership group will always keep an open ear to offers, they are not looking for suitors right now.

“We listen to everything,” he told TSN. “However, the reality is we’re happy and we’re definitely not shopping for a buyer.”

Translated… “Make an offer. Everything has a price”.

How would that help him? Taking away a major economic factor from Buffalo…Tom is all about NY…I don’t see how pissing off upstate NY would be great his political career.

Larry is building up the Buffalo water front around the arena…He would also do everything in his power to keep them in Buffalo…

180 million is pocket change for Gallisano.

Been open to offers for a while. Golisano stated he wants to sell if the team would stay in Buffalo…

If that were so true, why are we $7.3 million under the cap with him crying about salary costs? If 180 million is pocket change he should be able to find 7.3 million in his sofa cushions.

He runs the team like a profitable business and he sees the direction the league is heading in with huge salaries?

Or, taking it one step farther, he sees his $20 million investment worth $200+ million and realizes the most profitable way to run that business is to sell it.

thank you for stating one of the basic tenets of owning any asset.

Correct. He has a team that is filling the seats and making money. Why spend another 7 million if you are not going to make any more money from it. Unless of course they would make the playoffs with an additional investment, but that is never a guarantee.

zing!

WHOO HAA LZ ON A WARPATH

Good thing we built the new arena for them. I am sure we will earn our money back with concert sales.

Oddly enough…The arena size fucks Buffalo on concerts…

Buffalo market doesn’t get many big concerts because we are a shitty market…and to afford putting on a concert in the arena you have to be a big concert…

The title you gave this thread was absolutely stupid.

THE SABRES ARE NOT LEAVING BUFFALO. At least not any time soon. You think any investor who has even heard of the winter classic could not recognize that this is one of the best hockey towns in the world. Even if we are sold, we will stay in Buffalo

/thread

^lol. of all things to go at, you pick the title? The title is in reference to just about everything having a rumor about leaving buffalo, not that I actually think the sabres will leave.

JUST CALM DOWN SIR!

As has been discussed above Larry Quinn made a pretty definitive statement that they will never entertain an offer that would move the Sabres out of Buffalo.

Besides they are in a pretty rock-solid lease with the arena. Granted, no contract is bullet-proof, but AFAIK this one is pretty close.

i could see him selling with a clause to keep them here. that would free up some money for him, he could buy the bills, and move them to a location more beneficial to buffalo

on an unrelated sidenote; i love buffalo. i may leave for a year or two just because, but i plan on spending my life here. That being said; if we lost our nhl team, I would move.

you know I was thinking about this… about how buffalo being the least affected by this recession. All other large cities are going to be driven into huge debts… where as buffalo would just stay the same.

Buffalo should come out on top on this recession. Thank fully we have a bunch of idiots in power so nothing will happen.
