 That 180ish million in profit he’d get is barely a down payment for the cost of the Bills. Plus I’m sure he’d lose a bunch of that profit to taxes.
Its just the idea that a reported “super secret mystery man” published in a hockey journal by a writer who is still trying to make a name for himself caught your attention enough to word the tread like that. Idk… I just hate rumor talk especially when there is no apparent validity to it, and the only thing I hate more are the people who carry it.
I am right there with you!!! I love to travel and feel like I really need to live outside of Erie County (well, mostly the state lol) for a little while but I would love to land right back here in Buffalo someday. Maybe ill come back when it is the glorious prosperous place it was for our fathers lmao :mamoru:
Anybody know where Mark Hamister stands with the Sabres now a days??? Would he ever be interested again?
jay, i never said he’d be the only one. but it’s pretty darn plausible to be an investor.
steve tasker gave a 2 hour lecture at my work to some of buffalo’s richest people, including owners of other professional sports teams, stating that there were various groups of investors preparing for the bills sale.
and yes, golisano said a while back something to the effect of “it’s not on the auction block but I would sell it.” also, quinn’s deal is set up so he’d make millions when the team sells.
he took a team that was hard in the red, brought it back to an operating and profitable entity. why wouldn’t he sell them, make a clause that they don’t leave, and get 10x his money back? the guy is a business man, not a hockey fan. he doesn’t give a shit about the team, but he knows we must have a functioning team for buffalo to prosper
edit: and yeah, even if they sold i doubt they’d move. Tasker said of the bills; if they sell for 800 million, it will likely be to a group of investors prepared to keep them here. if they go for over a billion, expect them to go to a larger market.
as far as the sabres are concerned, we sold out an 80,000 person game in ten minutes. i’d say there’s a good hockey market here
Which made him look like the savior of Buffalo…Why would he sell it when they are now profitable and costing him nothing and make him look like hero for Buffalo.
because the hero work is already done. he already brought them up, took care of the adelphia shit, etc. he ate shit and made filet mignon out of it. he doesn’t have to keep eating it, the transformation is already done. as long as there’s a clause to keep it in buffalo, his move wouldn’t be interpreted as negative by any means.
read every article. he always insinuates that he would have no problem selling the team as long as they stay in buffalo. even the one you just posted, his defense isn’t “i wouldn’t sell the team.” his defense is “i wouldn’t sell the team to someone who’d move it”
edit: and since he isn’t investing any money, and we’ve been on the losing side of things the last 2 years, it’s evident that more money needs to be spent on players. why wouldn’t he leave before giving away his profits?
That 7mil we are under the cap would really turn things around for our season?
Him selling that team would be seen as negative it would open up the chance for them to be moved…If anything like this ever happened I am sure he would sell some % to someone else and still retain some control.
but then again you are debating some BS article and debating mindsets of people you have never spoken with…
We have talent…we have a great farm team…maybe the issue is else where?
It would have been better to start a thread like this when he gave Dan and Larry a minority piece of the Sabres…
I was seeing if I could stay here for a little bit after school is done next year , but if hockey is no longer in buffalo I am def out of here , I lived in south florida for 4 1/2 years with a very low hockey vibe it killed me … I love the fam and low cost of buffalo but i need a big city to live in ( with hockey ) …
you know i work as a hockey coach, right? and also grew up playing travel my whole life in “smallest town ever” buffalo. have friends who work in the ticket office, a kid i used to go to school with doing video scouting (though he’s kind of a flake) etc. coach kids whose parents work in the industry, own major companies, etc. hell one of my best friends goes sailing with larry quinn all the time in summer.
I’m not saying i’m anywhere near the top of any ladder as far as information goes, I’m just saying I’m not on the bottom, nor locked in a dark closet as you implied.
and do you know what 7 million a year could get us? Another vanek, perhaps? or a couple young solid defensemen? 7.3 million, especially the way staggered salaries are structured, could be a big difference man
a sale with a no-moving clause is just that. so how would that be negative?
and i do agree that we do have talent, and i’ll never lose faith but shit man, how many losing seasons can you have without changing things?
every article he blatantly says he would entertain the right deal. every single article. i’ve met the guy numerous times, he’s a nice guy for a businessman, and he’s def not a hockey fan.
