San Diego and surrounding areas. What to do?

So instead of buying useless gifts for Christmas, my girlfriend and I have decided to just take a little trip and split the cost. Part of the reason I’m choosing San Diego is because when the trip is over, I’ll be flying to Hawaii, and she will be flying back to Buffalo.

We are planning to go from Tuesday January 5th till Friday the 8th. We will have a car and hotel.

I’ve never spent any real amount of time in California so any suggestions on what to do, where to go, etc…? Is it worth the drive to Tiajuana for the day? I know traffic blows dick out there so I’ll be trying to plan accordingly with that in mind.

I know a few guys on here have moved out that way, so hopefully this yields some good feedback.

Hang out with Originalsin and Rage87

DONE

I’ve heard sketchy things about TJ as of late, stay out.

Traffic in SD is no worse than Buffalo, it’s LA that fucking sucks.

It will be chilly at the beaches, but check out La Jolla cove, Mission beach and Pacific Beach.

Wander around la jolla, tone of $$$$$ there, cool to look at… there’s a war memorial at the top of la jolla that is pretty cool and has some cool views…

Rent some bikes and cruise the boardwalk.

Bars near Mission Beach (i think, could be PB) are alright and inexpensive, and if you’re lucky you just might get in the big cats club.

:word: to Mission beach and Pacific Beach, check out a million blondes with fake tits everywhere. Traffic is not an issue. You can get to pretty much everything off I-5 or I-8.
-The children’s pool in La Jolla with the seals is cool. Chicks love it there.
-Check out the harbor, they have an aircraft carrier stationed there and all kinds of crazy shit. Do one of the tours or something, it’s really neat down there.
-Mount Soledad park, it’s basically a big monument and surrounding park at the top of a huge mountain, where you have an amazing 360 degree view, beaches on one side, inland and mountains on the other.
-Eat California burritos from random taco shops
-Garnet Ave. in PB has some good bars, there are some sweet ones right along the water in mission beach as well, pretty much that whole peninsula
-Watersports scene is great down there. Long shot but if you can meet up with locals its an awesome time.
-Old Town and the Gaslamp District are the hotspots in the city itself.

andys out there, pm him

Haha! We mentioned almost all of the same things, but yours is a lot less vague

(i was trying to say garnett ave, lol)

Haha, I was just thinking that. I was also going to mention to stay out of TJ because the drug cartels are randomly murdering and kidnapping people and it’s full of swine flu

I’ll most likely be in San Diego mid/end of the month

Also I hear sea world is cool if you’re into that sort of thing but I’ve never been. If you were going to TJ to buy cheap shit look for the swap meets, probably the next best thing.

And enjoy the fact that you can buy ridiculously cheap liquor at grocery and drug stores.

I’ve been there 4 times for up to 2 weeks each, and never not found stuff to do. It helps to be staying with a millionaire cousin who spends $30k a month on entertainment, but yeah.

Visit the beaches in Encinitas, they are beautiful plus there are many smaller restaurants with absolutely amazing seafood on their menu

The only reason I wanted to visit TJ was just to see some of Mexico. If you guys really think it’s that bad I’ll stay stateside, though.

Good stuff so far. Keep it coming.

Did I mention party with these 2 guys on either side of me???

The zoo is kickass. Largest one in the country. Must eat in Old Town.

Oh, good call on the zoo, I had an OK time even with a MALE friend… taking a chick there would be even better.

LOL

The area surrounding the zoo is good too.

Definitely hitting up the zoo.

Gas Lamp is always fun for a night out. Take the Take the Train up the coast to Oceanside its cheap and you can drink on it. Gives a nice presepective of the coast.
Im not sure if Delmar Track is still open this late in the Season but its a really cool place I love to go to.

Go to the Self Realization Fellowship if your in Encinitas. Amazing Meditation Garden with great history… and the Koy Fish are very relaxing

yeah def do the zoo, where are you staying?

u can drive down to mexico and see it just dont go over, there is a really legit outlet mall down there. it takes like maybe 15mins form the city to get to the border, but not worth going over right now, my mexican friends dont even go to TJ its so bad.

pacific beach is a good time, lots of bars on garnet, if you want some good sushi theres this place called MIKA sushi, on garnet, i HIGHLY recommend it and the tavern at the beach is prob my fav bar there

gaslamp downtown is def a good idea, lots of places to eat, clubs and what not.

tons of malls to go to, id check out fashion valley tho, one of the best IMO.

la jolla cove to see the seals and you can hit mount soledad, this can be done in a morning, def not a full day thing

there are tide pools at the end of point loma you can go to, pretty cool and you can get some good views of the city from out there.

renting a boat or jetskis in mission bay is fun. as well as renting beach cruisers and cruising around the beach areas. and although the water will be cold renting a wetsuit and surfboard is def fun.

julian is this older town up in the mountains, they have great homemade pie up there, thats thing to do i guess, drive up there to get pie. haha never done it but yeah, its a cool drive out there, and you can go a little bit further and check out the desert, you can get atvs/dirt bikes too.

mission trails park is a cool place to go hike, pretty close to the city and it doesnt take tooo long to climb cowels mtn, great views from the top

but yeah just pm me if you wana meet up or just know more about something, SD is great, youll love it

I was born in and grew up in San Diego but now days have a hard time remembering names and places…isn’t there a little shopping area on the water…I think they might have an old wooden roller coaster or something too (might be wrong there)…starts with a B maybe? I remember going there all the time growing up and while visiting and loved it…F…help me out here…?

Balboa Park?

Awesome. Thanks, man. I’ll let you know where I’m staying when I know. I haven’t booked anything yet. I’m down for a sushi meet if you are, though.

Grab a couple fish tacos for sure. One of my favorite things to eat in California.

The San Diego Zoo is very nice as well, one of the best ones I have seen in the United States.

San Diego is probably the cleanest city I have been to in quite some time. Its the exact opposite of Buffalo in every way, and its refreshing.
