Sasha the Super Cool Racer Dude (split)

Excuse my ignorance, I’m a huge racing noobie. This is a sincere question and you two seem to know a lot about this league…

If Sasha is in an unlimited class, doesn’t it seem strange that he can even compete when there are teams like Lexus with proper funding behind them? Why don’t they just build their motors properly and run a nice amount of horsepower, get better suspension and tires, etc and win.

I know there are going to be budget limits still but I’m taking into consideration that I know at least a little bit about what Sasha is running and it if you have some real funding behind you, no offense to Sasha… I <3 his car like I <3 sluts, it woudn’t take much to build a faster track car.

… No?

The high dollar teams seem to be running in T1 class, not GT unlimited. My best guess is that the larger financial backing in this class is more likely to give you a substantial advantage over the next person that doesn’t have the funding, even within the restrictions. The restrictions make money a necessity to go faster, themore money, the faster you can go within those restrictions.

Anyone can run unlimited. And in unlimited there is no difference between a high horsepower V8 made for under 3 grand vs the high horspower I4 made for 10. Power is power.

Basically, in the unlimited class, money doesn’t give you the advantage that it would in T1 class. Hence why the high dollar teams are in T1.

I mean you can only run so much power through R-compounds. Which iws why all the sponsored teams running very fast high horsepower cars, are in Ontario Challenge Cup. When there are allowed to run straight slicks of their choice in compound IIRC.

Haha wow i just read this post

I feel loved bobo is standing by me so hardcore

First of all i want to clear up the belt situation. As you guys know it was my first few races, and having never done anything like this before I was all over the map as far as scheduling goes. I thought I had more time before the race started and clearly i didn’t! Yea. disorganized. No doubt.

Anyways, I got to the mock grid (for you guys that dont know thats like the line up of cars ready to go out on teh track). Now I made it INTO my car before all the cars went out onto the track, but i did not actually get belted up and ready to go in time. The cars left, i belted up and put my net on. My net was ON before I went on the track. I want that to be very clear.

Now the reason i stopped at the pit exit - please read this carefully - is because i thought (being a noob and not knowing) that the grid was going to do one more pace lap and merge me into my qualifying position! I didn’t know that I had to GO GO GO and catch the pack. So a tow truck comes over to me and asks me whats up. Did the car stall? Broke somethign? I go “nah dude im just waiting for the grid to come around so the lady will put me in my position since i was late”

he goes “Nah man you gotta GOOOOOOO!!!” hahaha i was like OH MAN! Serious activity is about to ensue!

So i drove shannonville as fast as I knew how, on cold tires. Yea i slid a bit, but i was fast. And i caught the pack, and my tires were warm

As far as me sliding my car, its honestly just about consistency. Sometimes i brake just a touch too late, and have to trail brake to make the corner. Yea i’m pushing a bit too hard. But give me time to get the consitency down. In the last race I didn’t get sideways at all.

As for finishing 40sec behind on a regular basis from the T1 cars. My car is a turbo car and i’m always afraid its going to blow. When i have the GT lead - OR when i KNOW i can’t catch the GT leader and am comfortable in my position, i will slow down about 2-3 seconds per lap to save the car. Shift lower, stay in 4th where id normally go down to 3rd, and corner a bit slower. Brake earlier to save the pads etc.

So thats why you’ll see me hounding andrew for a few laps and passing nicol and then backing off so hardcore. Nicol’s car is AWESOME. It can keep going and going and going at its qualifying time. I wish I could do that. But i can’t. I’ll either overheat, or melt the tires.

Anyways, you guys should all come out this weekend its going to be exciting. I’m raising the boost up for the 20min and with some downforce work im going to try and catch that porsche. You’ll def see me hanging with andrew though.

As for updates, i guess i could post some race updates on this site i just dont want to be all “look at me im racing” you feeeellllll

and seriously - if anyone has a problem with me, tell them to come talk to me. This isn’t high school. If you’re too bored with racing that you feel you need to gosip, maybe you should find a new hobby?

Oh, and im running GT not T1 because i have an upgraded turbo which throws me out, as well as larger tires.

My weigh in weight was 2750lbs and I am now at 2840 i believe after the last race.

Whats this about being able to be re-weighed? I took out 200lbs out of my car since i weighed in at 2750 and would LOVE to be able to shed that weight! It doens’t make sense though, since the balast is there to make me heavier, why would they let me make my car lighter?

If you have more info that would be amazing, it would bring me down closer to 2550 base weight!

Seems you didn’t have your information right SE-R Racer.

Perhaps you should keep in mind that the paddock is terrible for misinformation and rumors…

Ask the guy striaght up and I’m sure he’ll be happy to give you a honest answer.

We’re there to race dude… not mess with politics…

i need a car setup mentor

i got new stiffer springs and a real alignment last week and the car felt real good at tmp. we’ll see how she does at mosport this weekend

im not sure what else to do to the car while i still have D2s

Sasha,
they are on fully adjustable Motons with data logging, they have a fully custom designed reworked suspension …that the FACTORY team could not even make…

they are not beating you with power…

they are by far the most technical team that I know of short of high end open wheel teams

you will only be able to either outpower them or outdrive them…

if you are on those shitty D2’s thats 1/2 your problem, step up to some at least half decent single adjustable struts…

what spring rates are you running? and what camber and toe settings?

Rates are 9/7’s, not sure about his alignment…

Adam, they have the resources to be that technical, as is clearly evident by their trailer.

Not everyone has the luxury of money…

its not money they have…its knowledge…

andrew went to school as a automotive design engineer specifically for suspension geometry if I recall, and his dad andy is a WHIZ at machining and other technical aspects…

they dont have a Huge shop, or crazy equipment…they have talent and HUGE amounts of technical skill and knowlege especially the work they put into suspension design and set up.

I’m not disputing their knowledge. I’m not. The combination of the two sound like an ideal pair.

But I don’t see anyone else showing up with a 2 level trailer, 2 identical cars, all painted to match, an entire team of 10-20, what look like either aspiring engineers or fresh out of school engineers, and a new RV to carry them around in.

Do you see where I’m going with this? I dont see anyone else with such a setup.

They have the knowledge, but knowledge is useless without the funding to make it reality.

It’s like David and Goliath when that team shows up.

I’ll tell you what though, perhaps Sasha and I will do a little work on his own suspension setup, because I’ve been planning to do this on my own vehicle, but I suppose Sasha’s car would benifit from it more at the moment.

It’s not surprising that his shop AUTO ANALYSER has a custom logging system for his suspension, but it’s not surprising either since I created a business plan last year on creating similar systems. But alas I dont have the funding to do it…

Did that Andrew by any chance go to Ryerson? There was a guy that used to be on our FSAE team that has several IS300s that he races.

Thats most likely who it is…

Whats the dirt on him

Haha, no real dirt, but he’s got money in a major way. And he used to be a bigshot on the team before he left (pretty sure he was the one that designed the suspension that we STILL use), so the guy really really knows his stuff.
I don’t know a lot about him since he’s before my time, but then again I’m not even that active of a member.

Yeah the money issue plays a big part. His last name start with a W?

Lol, you guys should have been at the track when Klaus had his Porsche GT1’s out

Lap record at Mosport for Super GT @ 1:21:179
He had two of them, the 2 car support trailer, satellite uplink etc.

You’d have to ask Gunther, but according to the rules there is no weight requirement for GT cars
3.1.3 GT
a) Any ‘T’ class car without minimum weight restriction or with modified forced induction;
b) ‘T’ class cars with engine swap (outside of original manufacturer);
c) ‘T’ class tubular frame cars or purpose built race cars;
d) Rim and tire size are free;
e) Or as otherwise stated in Vehicle Classification list (see Article 6.2.6)
.and
6.2 RACE WEIGHT
6.2.1 Touring GT Administration will establish a minimum race weight for each eligible vehicle make and
model using the latest version of the RaceOntario Weight Calculator, and the technical data given
by the competitor for his vehicle on the Declaration and Specification Sheet.
6.2.2 Drivers and/or Entrants submitting a vehicle declaration and specification sheet for the purpose of
re-adjusting and reducing the race weight of a vehicle that has competed in the 2006 TGTC, must
do so no later than five calendar days before the next planned TGT appearance. The request must
be made to the series administrator in writing.
6.2.3 Requests that re-calculate to 50 lbs or less will not be accepted. The declaration and specification
sheet will be kept on file as a record of declaration and vehicle legality.
So as I read it, 3.1.3 a) covers your T car without minimum race weight and your modified turbo.
And 6.2.2 allows you to make application to have your race weight reduced…it would then be up to Gunther to decide if he’ll allow it. Since we are 600lbs over our minimum weight as listed by the weight calculator, we are seriously looking at this.

Not sure, I tried looking on our site, couldn’t find anything about him, maybe it’s even a different guy? Either way, I just noticed that there’s a large gallery of the building of the RF-05, so maybe you and or Sasha would want to take a look http://www.ryerson.ca/~fsae to give him an idea of how something like that is made since he expressed an interest in it. She may not look like much, but that IS the beast that placed 10th globally and 2nd in Canada. That car is a pure testament to build quality, reliability and simplicity, since it lacked a lot of things like traction control, proper spark management, fully clutchless transmission (was only clutchless on upshifts).

But thats the point I’m making… The Auto Analyser Team isn’t that far off.

1:21 eh… Malcolms only a couple seconds off that pace… not bad for a beat to hell covette running QA1 monotubes…

It’s the hair

Yup, very good.
When Nick gets his Viper sorted out…or lets Tony race it…there should be some great racing.
