School Me on RX8's

well when it comes down to it here are my final choices of cars that I am looking into:

1999-2004 mustang gt (or cobra if the price is right)
350z (heard the 07 and newer have more hp then the 03-06)
RX8
STi (04-05)
EVO (04-05)

Well i can tell you this if you plan to drive it in the winter forget it… Guy i knew worked at Northtowne MAZDA (salesman) he said with snows outback it still wouldnt move and thats when it started!!! His wife had to drive him in every cold morning cause the damn thing would flood out on him and not start… LOL he traded it in after the first winter at 13k and on its 2nd motor… They are my g/f’s dream car and sure she will get one but i really wish i could talk her out of it…

What? The one I drove gots driven 35 miles into philidelphia and back 5 days a week for the entire winter last year.

I like the z1000 idea… love those bikes…

As for a car… stay away from the mustang or rx8… if you’re looking for handling.

I think the sti would be your most functional bet, esp with a little one.

Actual observed gas mileage is below 22mpg city from what i’ve heard from owners.

just a summer car

got a ride in one once, handles nicely.lacking power

oya,i think they look horrible.all sorts of triangles and circles mixed in all over the place

obviously if vin diesel drove a rotary with NOS, it can handle it

The engines burn through a bunch of oil too… but i think thats all rotory engines

funny, I used to see one every day of winter with Hakkas on it in the Furnas lot at UB

Not really my thing but they seem like fun enough cars

they are DESIGNED to do this, it is how they lube the apex seals. thats a given when you own a rotary, you HAVE to check the oil. also, about the guy who kept flooding it in the winter, was he like every other person who has no patience and would just jump in the car and expect to drive off without letting it warm up? again, not gonna happen with a rotary… there are things that you have to accept if you are going to own one, it is not a piston motor so of course things are going to be different. i’m not saying they are the ideal motor, but with statements like these it shows that alot of people shit on rotaries more often than not just because they are different

as for the rx8, i’ve always like the look, underpowered yes, but when i drove woody’s i thought it was fun, all depends what your looking for in a car…just dont expect it to be the fastest thing. rotaries don’t make torque, but they rev sooooo smooth.

well spoken. can we eff now?

Can’t believe you didn’t ask me :meh:

my place or yours?

i feel like you could have more fun with a z or s2k, but you can get a low mileage rx8 for the same price as an older higher mileage z or s2k. it’s all about what you want the car for.

vee are going to have a “hot” time yah?

i still own mine.

from what you said in the OP, it sounds like you want one for the right reasons. if you dont want to boost it and try to make crazy power, youre fine.

my experience with the car is as follows:

  • 1 for style, underage girls LOVE this car. you have no idea. this could be good or bad news for you
  • 1 for handling. its possibly the best ive ever experienced from the factory.
  • 1 for comfort. it drives smooth, plenty of room inside, heated seats are cozy
  • 1 for reliability. if you maintain it like you should, it will be good to you, like mine has.
  • 1/2 for power. its quicker than people give it credit for. if you dont expect a lot when you get in the car, it will surprise you. the tranny is geared very well for quick acceleration. just dont expect it to keep up with your friend’s ls1. its meant for tracks, not drag strips.
  • 1 for resale. initial value plumits on these when you drive them off the lot. find a nice 04 or 05 (like mine) and you shouldnt be too bad off.
  • 1 for MPG’s. They should be better, but what can you really expect from a sports car. The mpg’s from a 350z arent that much better. if you drive like a sane person, you can get 20 no problem.

oh and whatever you do. DONT buy an auto. they blow.

If youre seriously in the market for one, mine is for sale. shoot me a pm

AUTO’S ARE VERRRY SLOW… im not kidding like 17-18sec 1/4mile slow lol

why not a GTO or a new G8? GTO’s can be had pretty cheap these days, but both cars are a pretty good value for your money.

Great interior fit and finish/materials, good build quality, great get up and go, handle decent, good gas mileage for what it is, good looking (purely subjective) and reliable.

take one for a test drive
