brutal.

The xB gets 28 combined MPG. I bet it would tip well over 30 if it wasn’t designed in an intellectual vacuum.

This somehow manages to be uglier and less aerodynamic than a xB.

pure crap

scion is jumping the shark

It’s like a hhr, except somehow uglier.

this has been around for awhile, and its not getting made.

in 09 scion is coming out with a car like the current smart car, and in 2010 the tc replacement comes out.

Scion is fucked up.

Scion is one of the coolest car companies out there right now

^^ coming from a scion owner herself (atleast i assume your female because girls are the only people who buy them)

lol

yeah i helped my Ex find hers. its the new grand am. but 1000x better.

toaster?

good god, i bet they just showed the designers a picture of like a gtr or an r8 and said “Yeah we need the polar opposite of this, and I mean it, like if Rosie O’Donell was a vehicle”

though theres nothing wrong with the tc, scion at least deserves some props there

the tc is decent and thats it.

The Smart ForTwo is worthless. Worse mileage than a base Cooper, Fit, Versa, or Yaris, less cargo capacity, less safety, less performance, and less proven reliability at Mercedes labor rates.

I’ll grant Scion here that they couldn’t do much worse.

It’s already been said, but don’t be insane. I hope you’re kidding. The tC is a passable alternative to a Corolla or Civic, and is cool to the same demographic that thinks that those cars are the pinnacle of automotive coolness. I try not to judge, but, for me, my MINI, or any of a few dozen BMWs made since the 1980s, a WRX, a MS3, and so on… well, they blow any of the Scion econoboxes out of the water.

I think what you really mean is that they’re successfully marketed at the young crowd by looking different and being customizable. That’s not automotive coolness, it’s successful marketing.

^

that’s a stretch and not what he meant. he said “coolest car company”, not coolest car. There is a difference. We can debate cars all day long.

The company itself - The marketing has been very good. But it goes beyond that. For a sub $20k econoboxes to have a sense of real community built and paid for by a car company is unheard of. Non-owners wouldn’t understand.
Before I bought mine, I had no idea.

Sure, most in the demographic - their extreme sense of ‘modding’ is adding some LEDs, but they embrace all kinds and have provided an urban outlet.
Over the past 2 years I’ve been to many car shows they’ve sponsored. But to call them ‘car shows’ would be weak. Any car company can throw up a tent at a venue and call it a day. But Scion takes over, invites owners and their families for full day, night or even overnight of fun.

So I’ve been to Englishtown about 6 times on their dime in the past 24 months, where in addition to show, free entry, free catered meals, DJ and swag, they shut down the 1/8th mile track for owners only. That was ‘cool’ and real nice. That was also my first introduction to the track.
A few months ago I went to NJ Motorsports for a Skip Barber training event and got to do a watered down time attack. Again on their dime, and fully catered / entertainment.
Private launch party for their xD at a club in Manhattan some time ago. Even the city parking was covered.
They book Six Flags outside of Boston around Halloween each year. Car show, entertainment, and not only free entry to the park (for anyone who can fit in your scion), but the park is shut down completely to owners only at night.
They do overnight “camp outs”. The last one was at Rye Playland in Westchester. I got to take the 'fam on their dime. We didn’t stay overnight, but they did pass out tents to anyone who wanted to. nice touch, along with the ‘drive in movie’ on the big screen. fast & the furious, 'natch.

And that’s just the east coast. who knows if they’ll have the marketing $$ for 2009…the DC - NY scavenger hunt (all expenses, lime rock…i was selected for the event, but the wife was pregnant and we had to bail…argh) they did in 2007 was not repeated in 08.

Anyway, Honda never did this for me, neither did mazda, nor Nissan. I don’t know what you drive, but your car company didn’t either.

Beyond the freebies, I’ve had the opportunity to meet a lot of like minded people of all ages/demographics. It also spurred my interest in tooling on my car for maintenace and performance or electronics. And gave me the bug to get into amateur driving events (hopefully more on my own next season) and to seek out forums like this one. that is why they are ‘cool’.

Scion isn’t “cool” no matter how much free shit they give you.
