Yes, tell the government and general public to scrap an environmental program… this isn’t exactly the long-gun registry. Besides, there’s no reason to not have a legal, clean running car. Stop being so ghetto. Fuck.
Even clean running and relatively new cars are failing this new test due to technical errors.
FUCK the environment! and TREE LOVING PROTESTERS
This Drive Clean BULLSHIT is the reason myself, and a lot of other people can’t even insure their fucking cars. I have a 1992 Nissan 240sx LE. I CAN’T INSURE THE THING ANYWHERE. I called multiple places and none of then will insure anything older then 96. The reason I was given: They are not reliable and have a lower success rate of passing etest. FUCK THE GOVERNMENT. FUCK DRIVE CLEAN. GET RID OF IT AND LET US DRIVE YOUR CARS. DON’T COME IN HERE SHITTING ON MY THREAD 'CAUSE YOU CARE MORE ABOUT THE TREES THEN YOUR CAR.
really? did you try just asking for liability only? and how many places did you try? my friend has a 92 civic si and he was told they will only give liability but at least he can drive the thing. but this is getting out of hand they are forcing people to buy brand new or take the bus. you can always insure older cars with sliver but i think it’s only for people 30 and older
this is a mechanics greatest news. the rolling dyno is no longer needed for most cars and a simple 5 min test is all that’s needed, so same cost for less work on good vehicles.
This isn’t a true measure of exhaust output its simply that your sensors in your vehicle are working correctly. here’s a question how to they test for a bad cat? my car was tested the old way as its an old car and it failed bad, then they replaced the cat bam numbers way below factory specs.
If your evap system has a broken sensor or a leak your car will fail. this has nothing to do with emotions does not effect emissions. however there is no test to tell exactly what the problem is in an evap system. so that could be a extremely costly fix with 0 gain to the environment. Its a cash grab. nothing more nothing less. I do think the drive clean is a good idea but it should be for vehicles older then 5 years and not for classics or older then 20 years.
I wish I had the power to give someone a temp ban. You clearly don’t understand the insurance,
or car industry if you believe a 15 year old car not passing e test is the cause for high insurance costs.
Test emissions from 1988 to 1997. Anything before 1988, don’t test at all. Anything after 1997, do an ecu test lol.
How is testing an ECU good for the environment, I read reports of catless G35’s passing with ECU tunes that disabled most parameters from being read.
This drive clean program does not make sense, but its not suppose to, its a cash grab to pay for money pits.
“Now, every day countless vehicles fail this new test – not because of emissions-related problems – but because of a computer error. Rather than address these technical issues, the Liberals have told Ontarians to spend their valuable time and money driving on highways and around town in the hopes their vehicle’s on-board computer will correct itself for the next test,” Harris said.
I would have to agree with this point, the computer check sucks. Our celica had engine codes for all 3 years we owned it, had 6 codes and everyone was related to the evap system. I do not think it was a computer error but the CAT was 11 years old. When we took it to get e tested, both times it passed with flying colours. The car was well maintained and was a 1.8L. Failing it because of the codes would have been a huge hassile and would have cost’s us a lot of cash we couldn’t afford or wanted to dump into it.
On another note, an ob2 scanner can reset codes. They ussually last a couple days before reappearing, wouldn’t it be easy to trick the system? Even the guys at part source will do this for you for free. So what’s stopping people from going to part source resetting the ecu and then going to take the test?
Clearing the code doesn’t fully clear it from the ECU’s memory. It will still register that a code was recently triggered and will display a “Not Ready” on the readiness check. That’s an automatic fail. The car has to go through a full drive cycle (Variable for each model) but usually consist of full warm up and cool down cycles and unless you know this information, it can be hard to trigger the right events.
598 people have now signed it, I have no doubt that something will be done as the result of this
This thread is full of people who don’t know how cars work, how your emissions systems work, how the test is supposed to be operated, or how insurance works. Good luck with your petition, kids.
Yup. This guy is making me miss d3boy2002
I agree, but its kinda BS how only southern ontario has e-test laws and the rest of canada is exempt… do it to everyone if its about saving the enviroment… its just business for the government.
I still think the concept of paying a sum, based on the amount of emissions your car produces is the best, sending the money from that (apart from operating and admin costs) towards Canada’s carbon credits
sup
To all those who think this etest is good for the environment, look at all the bullshit waste and emissions these Canadian companies are producing in the environment.
Didn’t Canada back out of the Keyoto Accord? It’s all a damn cash grab, bunch of you people are ignorant to see what the government(s) do.
