Got my Nikon D5100 and with kit lens, got a 50-200MM comming and come to find out some of my really good glass from my old Nikon 35MM cameras fit and work just fine on this with the exception of auto focus.
Only pic im putting up for now as most of it was just playing around with and I just got home and its late, but will post things as I play aroudn with and hope to get some good input from the photo gurus around this place
This was shot in low light with a Nikon 50MM 1.2, i think the focus is just a TAD off, focusing with this viewfinder manuall is a pain in the balls, and I don’t think you can change the viewfinder lens in this camera which sucks because I have a nice one in the 35MM which helps a TON with focusing.
Thanks man, can’t wait till its nice out and I can go out and play a bit more. I was playing with the damn thing all last night, I used to LOVE shooting when I younger and just kinda stopped 5-6 years ago.
Got even happier when I realized all the expensive glass we had from our other cameras work on this.
That 50mm 1.2 I have is expensive as shit. Also have a Prime 150MM and a Mirrored 500MM, 1-2 others that I need to look for.
Nice, definitely cool to start out with some good lenses even if they are mf. Have you tried focusing them on the lcd in live view? Maybe that would give you the magnification you need. If you plan on doing some videos and stuff those old mf lenses should be golden. Don’t forget to read the manual and happy shooting man.
Yeah the LCD is even harder, doesn’t help that the aprature was really low so room for error is tiny, but only way to get decent shots in that room without cranking the ISO REALLY high or using the BS Flash, I need to get new battery packs for the nice flash I have, coulda bounced off the ceiling and that probably woulda worked well.
Literally the slightest adjustment of the focus ring could completely fuck up the focus, i’d really like to know if theres a way to change the viewfinder lens, it looks to be about the same as the one in my 35mm and makes focusing a fucking breeze
Anyways gonna pick up a new 35mm lens today with Auto focus. I should be set for lenses for awhile. Most of the shooting i’d want to do is stationary so manual focus is fine, and I have really good glass for that. I wanna head to a few track days and drift events as I Loved shooting them with elliots camera in the past, might be harder with the manual focus but the 50-200mm one I just got as well should be okay.
Saving up and getting this 18-200 ive been drooling over the past few nights though

Ahh fail on my part, dident realize the old 1.2 lens I had really isnt a 1.2, its an F2.
I was confused as to why the aprature only went to 2 on the ring, and it looks just like the 1.2 lens aside from the number on the ring which i completely missed :rofl

Asked the wife if I could take some pics when she got home, just did a quick shoot in the bedroom. Their not perfect, but not bad for my first time really trying to do a shoot of a person.
