Shock & spring install

Hi,

I want to get some shocks and springs installed on my car and wanted to know if anyone can provide me a quote for what they paid themselves and where they had the job done. (How long ago and any issues yet?)

I searched so please dont say anything like use the search feature…
I also have seen the recommended mechs (thread http://www.son240sx.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7427&highlight=mechanic ), but I know as well that a lot of ppl here must have gone through this mod/repair and will be able to assist me without me having to call 10 different places. (which is hard since I work during most shops business hours)

Thanks for your help.

just do it yourself, it’s so easy.

I can probably do it. But then I need a spring compressor right?

Also, is it safe to drive it for like 1 week before getting it aligned?

Just also curious to know how much some1 else would charge me for a decent job.

i never used a spring compressor and i never even got an alignment since i put it in…(that was in april) lol.

call me a dork but i haven’t had a single problem.

it would be advisable, however others have made due without,

100 zipties come to mind, Gonad; can I get an img for this?

advisable = safest…

u dont need one… but u can always borrow one from canadian tire so i heard… but i didnt use one … i just shot my topmount 3meters :)… so its advisable to use one to be safe :stuck_out_tongue:

retarded places charge 4bills to change 4 shocks off and on ur car labour only… errrr so i sed it doesnt take u 4 hrs and sed fu to them… and did it myself

LOL

I guess Im gonna post for some help on the Help Wanted section.

Thanks guys for your input.
I asked for a few quotes and I was already thinking of delaying the install just because of the labour money.

Thanks again lucid for the springs… gonna be a good combo with the AGXs’ i got from MrSkinny.

you gave up a trillion times and flipped out on me 10 times until i came and helped you, realistically for an average joe its not that easy lol

is approx 3 hr job according to mitchell’s labour book…

so it gives u a rough idea if the shop quote u too much or not…
but 4bills for it is just too much…

that’s because that bolt fucker seized and i couldn’t get it off. that has noting to do with decompressing the springs. i was scared of that at first but when i found out how they pop off i did the rest no prob.

Im thinking of doing this…

Unbolt the nuts and slowly jack up the car until the shocks and spring come off… then replace with my new shocks and springs. what do you think?

Also, do the springs need to be “locked” in certain position?

i did that for my fronts, it wasn’t really necessary for the rears though.

yeah but they’ll pop into place after a quick test drive.
