<3… just be safe.
Yea that’s the one, at one point he even had taken one of the tire “pant pen’s” and filled in all the the tread with orange paint…
Idk, I wouldn’t want it on my bike.
I’m a firm believer in the R&D that manufacturers put into their products.
If he’s not knee dragging his hog, wouldn’t a full threaded car tire actually offer better grip and saftey in gravely turns?
^in a flat road the contact patch would be larger sure… but its not going to turn better… definitely not better at speed.
Oh yeah. The last thing you want is a bigger contact patch, purpose-designed tread, and smooth transitions.
It would probably be fine for a rider/bike that just cruises easy in a straight line, which sounds like the case here.
Of course, if you’re really that desperate for improved ride and handling you could just sell the Harley and get a decent bike… Zing! :io:
Sounds like you’re going to do it. Let us know how it works out in the real world.
FYI:
For many years, Boss Hoss sold their bikes with a motorcycle front tire and an automotive rear tire. This is one area where the motorcycle aftermarket has come closer to the muscle car market, and Boss Hoss is now able to offer properly rounded, and still sufficiently large, motorcycle tires for the rear end. The only tire that has been certified to be used on a Boss Hoss is the Avon 230.
I know guys with large cruiser bike that run car tires all day long. They can’t turn normally so why try now? lol
I feel this is a bad idea and the still shots of the youtube videos show why. The car tire is being forced to pivot on it’s sidewall where a motorcycle tire would normally be on it’s tread. This just sounds dangerous.
Call Steve’s Custom Cycle. Ask for Darren, 625-4372. Get his opinion on it. He’s build many suspensions and setup many race bikes. Yes you are not a race bike but the principles are the same.

This is an very erroneous statement. I am going to guess you have never ridden a cruiser. You would be shocked at what an FLH can do. They have great proportions and their rake and trail are setup very nicely.

I can understand that the ride quality might feel better because of the steel belts and not the bias polyester belts but there is a reason this isn’t done from the factory and I think it’s safety. A car does not necessarily lean on the tire the same way in a turn, yes the side wall flexes and depending on pressure can flex real far. I don’t see the benefit other than maybe more ride quality which is a small trade off for proper handling. I’ve ridden hundreds of miles in a single stretch and have never once thought, man I wish these tires rode better. I’m just glad that I didn’t die.
don don don… cruisers DO NOT handle… if they did, you’d see them at world superbike/supersport/motogp… etc etc…
also, if this made the bike handle better/ or safer… theyd come like this from the factory…
aye aye ayeeeee
I keep hearing “You’re going to shoot your eye out kid!” lol
Cruisers don’t handle like sport bikes, my point was, Cruisers handle better than you think!
NO THEY DONT <3…
(especially not with a flat tire)
I’m gonna punch you in the dick. When you come home of course
People that do this kind of thing are the ones that love to report with their calibrated butt dyno that everything IS AMAZING.
Its like people that swear their home brew tune is awesome only to show up at a dyno and find out they are making less power than stock… but hey, it feels faster!
will perform horrible and unsafely, looks retarded. unless it was like a hugh steam roller looking tire, the fact that you researched this for weeks seems like you wasted so much time.
i see this everyday at bert’s…many…many…many people do this…i rode a vstar 1300 tourer with a car tire and i didnt notice the difference really at all…
i dont really understand it though because the only thing to gain is life of the tire…and most people who have bikes SHOULD also be able to maintain them…but i have come to realize this couldn’t be less true…
in the end its your bike and your life…make a decision and live with the results
It’s not about gaining life of the tire for me. Stability and comfort. Road snakes are not supposed to be an issue, gravel is much better, rain, etc and most claim a better overall ride.
I really don’t see the big deal here. There is so much info out there from people that do it that really like it. The opposition are the ones who have not tried it or are afraid to try it.
Yeah for pretty good reason I would think. You are much more likely to die from a motorcycle crash than an automobile crash.
This has nothing to do with cars other than their tires being put on the wrong vehicle! lol
Sure, my point was that the possible decrease in safety probably keeps most riders from doing this because the consequences of their actions are much greater.
