I’m not watching that
I love animals, especially lightly coated in oil and then grilled…NOM NOM NOM!
Hilarious, you’re probably the first person to ever think of that joke! Did you come up w/ that all by yourself?
No, I stole it from your mom last night while I was banging her. (better?)
What I don’t understand is that every time they cap the well the oil still leaks out around the edges. They cut the pipe and put something over top to suck the oil out. If they are pumping the oil to the surface, perhaps they should invest in a stronger pump to suck the oil out and create pressure so that it doesn’t leak due to the pressure behind the valve.
Or, better yet… since it’s a mile down I’m sure it’s cold. I’m positive that humans have created some sort of rubber or mendable material that can stay plaible and flexible for a couple of months of that frigid temperature.
Why not create a valve that tightens around the cut pipe with that material inside to fill the holes. Then attach a mile long pipe to the surface, attached to a ship. The pipe can be supported on the bottom of the ocean so that it doesn’t tip/fall over.
Do I need to do another MSPAINT of this? Why do they keep using solutions that work only half way? Who the hell is thinking of these solutions?!
Seriously. I mean, why don’t they just put a cork in it?! Idiots!
I think what you meant is that they should create a vacuum, creating more pressure would increase the amount of oil leaking
We need Captain Planet. He’s our hero.
good luck
agreed, that was f’ed up
+1 I am not watching the vid but I hate seeing bad things happen to animals. poor lil guys.
I don’t know why they cannot put a hydraulic finger assembly that would grab that flange and pull that collection hat down tight.
If its not a good seal, they have to let it leak because methane hydrates will form in the pipe on the way up and cause it to get blocked. I am no expert, thats just what the guys in the know I’ve been talking to are saying.
I should clarify that I didn’t post that video to be sadistic or anything… It’s just a really sad and harsh reality that, well, simply sucks. I’m not a tree hugger or anything, but that just makes me die inside.
The worst part about the video is that it’s just the beginning of all the horrible things to come for the wildlife.
fuck it. I will post later.
That video was disturbing to say the least…
^
They are doing a pretty good job now of collecting the oil. I’ve been following this every day for about 20 days now, heh. I have heard so many dumb ideas from people on CNN, online, and radio on how to fix it. Basically, it’s so hard because it’s a mile down, and the pressure is so immense, combined with the fragile well itself and the gases coming out. This cap they have now is pretty much going do alright until they get the relied well drilled.
Bill Nye was on TV talking about it, and I am pretty sure he said it’s coming out at 6800 psi, which is hard to fathom. 6800 psi coming out of a 21" pipe is just insane, so it’s amazing that we have been able to cap it at all. I read about that 1910 oil leak in California where it spewed out as much as 100,000 barrels a day, and it lasted for 18 months. At least that was on land, but still way worse flow than this. It really sucks for the fisherman and the marshes and such, but I would be willing to bet that after about 6 - 8 months, 80% of the oil will be cleaned up. That is assuming, we can actually stop the leak in August.
If you want to get rich quick, find a way to clean up oil easily. There are SO MANY PEOPLE getting rich right now, from using dry ice to straw mats. Nothing is new they are doing, just new ways of using common materials. If I was in the south, I’d be experimenting like a mofo

Oh man… that picture is definitely getting forwarded.
