I think I’m going to go buy a kiddie pool, big fan, case of oil and a video camera at walmart and sell my “hurricane encounters oil slick scientific simulation video” to the Obama administration for 10 million dollars. It would be better than the advice they’re getting right now.
I dare you to actually do this. Make it very official and scientific looking and it may actually become a viral Youtube video
this been posted yet?
The russians closed 4 oil wells with nukes, 3 of them were just put next to it and it shut it down. One had to have a small hold drilled next to it and the force clamped the pipe shut and put enough material on top of it to close the leak off.
SOOOOOOOOO with all of this known, its great to hear Obama talk about them doing all they can blah blah fucking fuzzy bunnies and butterflies blah.
But they will ride this pony right up to 7 dollar a gallon gas and shove it up out ass.
See, I called it back on page 2.
How do they close oil wells with nukes?
I haven’t been paying attention yet…did they try magic yet?
They put a nuke next to it, set it off, and it closes the bore hole that started the mess.
I am too lazy to read through the whole thread was the Kevin Costner thing discussed?
The use of a centrifuge is a great idea, I am not sure if it can be scaled up large enough to make much of a dent.
The devices, which can be taken to the spill site via barges, come in different sizes. The largest can clean water at a rate of 200 gallons per minute – more than 50 gallons faster than the well is leaking, according to the firm. Depending on the water to oil ratio, the devices are capable of extracting 2,000 barrels of oil per day from the gulf. BP is employing six of the machines in its tests.
Sounds like it couldn’t hurt
that was pretty good, and also aggravating
Its marketing. Yea the well is leaking at a a rate slower than this thing can work. But it instantly contaminates THOUSANDS and tens of thousands of gallons of water in a minute after it leaves the well as it spreads out at its density level. You have to find the density level that its at, and then maybe you can do a drop of work in a pool of problems.
Its like saying that if I pout a cup of water in a full bath tub, that it will just take a few cups to get all that oil back out. That oil spreads out instantly and you have a huge mess. Is it better than nothing, sure, but at the price of the technology we have a better chance using hay bails.
Holy crap, that flame lasted for 3 years!
On a side note, how did we put the oil fires out that Saddam left for us in the first Iraqi war?
Google “Boots and Coots”. They would take a long boom that had a barrel of explosives on the end. They would detonate the explosives and that would suck up all the air, which would extinguish the flame. Then with a cable saw they would cut the old well head off, and then lower an opened blow out preventer over the well and secure it. Once it was secure they would literally close the valve by hand and the well would shut off. Totally crazy shit that made a few men very rich.
Start at 5:00 its 2 methods used: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfFLetbapAo
yessss i will build one !
Nuking it would be cool, I hope they take lots of video, but all that was done on land, not sure what happens when you nuke something that far underwater. I just have the image in my head of it making a bigger hole and cracking the ocean floor and swallowing the oceans or setting all the oil a blaze.
some guy talking about the oil spill…not sure if its completely true, its just been going around
