smart phone advice-verizon rant

I was thinking about the phones. Really ye all i want is something with a qwerty keyboard. But on another aspect if in the future i want to make more use outa it maybe if its the same price as lets say a env id get a phone not as basic

anyways if you all want to look on with me about phones here is my current list that im looking at:

the first env or the earlier one vx9800 which pretty much looks the same but is a little bit cheaper and the only real difference i see is that the buttons are a little different and instead of having a 2mp camera the vx9800 has like a 1.3mp…big deal lol. So one of those would be nice

Samsung SCH-u740/ Samsung Alias -> really good phone. Just seems like a normal phone with a keyboard which may after all be all I need. But seems flimsy becuase of that hing and numbers/letters are tiny but once I’m used to it if i got it I’m sure I’d be fine.

Chocolate 3-just a media phone for music…no keyboard i know

PDA phones:
xv6700
xv6900

Palm Treo series

LG Voyager-like the env but more bad ass lol. I can get this phone online as an upgrade off the verizon website for 149$ maybe thats what i need to get? I don’t need to change my plan for that phone? Like any other BS we discussed earlier wouldnt effect that phone? Like be charged data for each txt? Just get the package open it activate it and have fun? And without the data package I’d just not be able to go on the net or get mobile TV? But who cares for TV on a cellphone…On side note it would extend contract 2 years lol. Which i don’t care for but if i can get a deal buying it off the verizon wireless website maybe worth the 2 more years.
But i heard theirs a Voyager 2 coming out. Rumor is in November it will be released. The current one of the verizon site is 149.99. Which fits perfectly into my price range that I’m searching ebay for unlocked phones at 150$.

Dunno yet. Im just researching shit right now I’d probably actually do the phone switch in like a month. Just before then want to get the right phone and not regret it later. Rather look into ever aspect of shit rather then jumping and getting shit ima want to toss out within the first week of use.

The blackberry curve is extremely bad ass I’d love to get that phone. But as I said I don’t want to be forced into getting the data plan with a new phone. But in the future if I choose to get the extra features on the phone that I get then I’ll data plan at that time.

guys, i have a Verizon Moto Q9M, and Do NOT have a data plan. The Verizon Stores suck ass. I refuse to go in to them

I called Verizon Customer Service, and they informed me that i have to have the Data plan when you purchase the phone, but then you can Immeditaely drop it off your plan. That is what i did with my Moto q, but the stores wont tell you it, cause they get a piece if they sell certain things

i have bought 3 phones from Customer Service, i only go into the V store if i want to look at a New phone…NEVER to purchase

Thats basically what i did but they fed me so much bullshit while i was in the store i just fucken left that store pissed off lol.

Sir for txting on the verizon Moto Q9M is their some data charge for pic or what ever messages without the data package and just having some txt plan such as i do having unlimited IN txting and 500 txts outside verizon which on the current phone is included for pics and txts.

Just need to see if that fraction of a cent bullshit they fed me yesterday was remotely true for phones like smart phones or pda’s for sending picture messages was true. LOL i did email verizon like at 12 last night no reply…But you may know becuase you have a smartphone without the data package. So just clarify that shit up.

I have a motorola q and like it 90 billion times better than a treo. windows mobile may be a little buggy, but it’s still better than palm.

blackberry’s are nice if you need e-mail but I am not a fan of them for just a regular phone.

I had a Q… Kept the $10 a month 500 text/Unlim innetwork text, and that’s all I ever had to pay.

The Q really started getting on my last nerve tho, the constant WM5 crashes, and terrible battery life… I got rid of it in favor of a normal phone for a while (samsung u-740)

Just bought a blackberry curve 2 weeks ago, and damn, it is the best phone I have ever owned.

My only issue with the Curve is that the screen is SO damn easy to scratch!

Not been trying to find out, been trying to minimize the time it is outside of its holster… lol

Ye at this point im thinking all i need is a phone with a keyboard like the samsung u-740 or the newer one samsung alias…which basically is identical just the number buttons are easier to spot.

Now as said I did email verizon this is what they said

In regards to the 6700 PDA phone being a good phone, all of our phones are tested with the network to ensure quality of service and we stand behind every phone we offer to our customers. It has lots of features that may be good for you depending on you specific needs.

Mr. …, if you choose to activate a Blackberry phone on your account you are required to purchase a monthly data (for email/internet browsing) plan for $24.99, $29.99, or $44.99 depending on your needs. If you activate a PDA on your account you are also required to have a data package (email and internet browsing) on your line but your choices are different. You can view all the choices for data packages for the PDA below:

The following data packages are used for your PDA to perform data-related functions such as checking e-mail, surfing the Internet or transferring files. Please be aware if you choose option 1 or 2 listed below, applications such as Wireless Sync, Active Sync, Handango, MSN Messenger, and many other third-party applications incur kilobyte (KB) charges in accordance with the data plan you choose in addition to other charges imposed for the use of the application itself. You may choose from the following data plans:

  1. Pay As You Go: There is no monthly fee associated with this plan; however, each KB used is billed at $0.015 (1.5 cents). This plan is recommended only for those who use data sparingly. This plan cannot be used on BlackBerry devices.

  2. 10-megabyte (MB) feature: This feature is $24.99 per month and includes Wireless Sync. One MB is equal to 1,024 KBs. Each additional KB used over the monthly allowance will be billed a half cent.

  3. Unlimited Data for E-mail feature: This feature is $44.99 per month and includes unlimited data transport for e-mail, as well as Wireless Sync. If you have moderate to heavy data usage, this feature would best serve your needs since there are no overage charges for KB usage.

Mr. …, in regards to data for text and picture messaging you will need an additional plan for this function. On a PDA and
Blackberry phone you use data or email/internet and text/pic messaging. The two data functions are different and require different plans. With text messaging no matter what time of phone you have activated on your line, if your using text/pic messaging you will need a package or your line will incur individual text messaging charges of $0.20 cents per text and $0.25 cents per picture for sending and receiving. If you have the $10.00 package on your line, it will continue to include unlimited text/pic/video to Verizon wireless customers and 500 messages to other carriers in the U.S. If you are receiving text/picture that are being relayed via your email on your Blackberry or PDA phone the messages will be counted out of your text package from the 500 messages to other carriers.

Additionally, if you have our $5.00, $10.00, $15.00, or $20.00 individual text/pix package on your mobile phone you do have a limit of messages you can send and receive to other carriers. To avoid additional overages for text/pic you can choose to change to either our Nationwide Select plan or our Nationwide Premium plan, which both offers Unlimited text/pic/video to anyone in the United States sent or received. These two plans have different pricing depending on the other features on your phone you will want to use. To view our available calling plans, you may click on this direct link to our website, where you will be provided with detailed information such as allowance of minutes and applicable roaming and long-distance charges:

Unlimited Data, Connected Device and Family Wireless Plans

So seems like what they said at the verizon store is correct. Fuck paying a few cents or what ever for txting and pics. Because smart phones and PDA’s use data to send them. My goal is to get a phone with a keyboard and maybe as many features without changing my plan or paying more in the plan. The plan currently has unlimited txt. No data plan. If i do get a smart phone or a PDA phone i don’t want to be forced into getting a data plan when at first i do not intend to use it. If in the future I decide i want internet or what ever on my phone THEN i will look into the data package…and fuck extra charges to send txt/pics lol…i already have a txt plan…I guess i just need a simple phone with a keyboard to satisfy my current needs?

if you arent going to use the internet get a regular phone…

you can get on the internet from those phones i believe but it sucks…and again comes the data plan…I dont care for the time being getting email or internet from my phone. But maybe in the future…dunno. Just currently have no use for them and the data plan

heres the other reg phone im looking at with keyboard …yall should know them
This is like a pre env phone…like the model before that didn’t get the name env
vx9800
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000BONWUU.01.PT01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

Just seems to be a thicker env with a weaker camera…instead of 2mp its 1.3mp

and yall should know what the env looks like

i had the env, it was a good phone, i’ve had good luck with LG phones…i recently upgraded to the Voyager & i love it, its a bad ass phone. Prob more features then i’ll need but its sweet

LG does make good phones…

so the V (the pre env one)
the env
or the alias (the samsung one)

which?

I had the Alias for two years. Never had any issues with it, it stood up to my horrible treatment of phones (So far, the Curve isn’t fairing as well), and the keyboard was just the right size.

few questions about it.

*Did the hinge make it seem flimsy? Like it could just break in half?
*could it hold more then 50 txts in the inbox (current one only 50 :frowning: )
*Keyboard too small?
*If i put a memory card in it can I put music on it? Does it have a decent music player? Can this music be used as a ringtone?
*Video’s?
*internet-if i choose to in the future?
*games?

music and video’s i doubt id use the cell for it cuz i have a mp3 player that does both but if my cell can do it cool.

*Did the hinge make it seem flimsy? Like it could just break in half?

No, it was very sturdy.

*could it hold more then 50 txts in the inbox (current one only 50 :frowning: )

It can hold 100 total, between inbox and outbox.

*Keyboard too small?

No, surprisingly not. Easier to use than my Curve’s.

*If i put a memory card in it can I put music on it? Does it have a decent music player? Can this music be used as a ringtone?

Yes you can, the music player is OK. It can’t to my knowledge be used as a ringtone.

*Video’s?

Yes.

*internet-if i choose to in the future?

Crappy Mobile Web, but yes.

*games?

There are some decent ones out there.

I’ve never seen so much debate over a damn cell phone.

I’ve never seen so much debate over a damn cell phone. x1000000000000

Hhaha dont blame me for wanting to get my facts right for what the people at the verizon store told me and not wanting to get a phone that in a day id want to run over.

:bash:

just take the cheapest phone out there and be done with it. cell phones FTL
