i say smoking sucks… that’s why i quit… and thats as far as it should really go… people that dont like smoke shoulnd’t and people that don’t want to be around it shouldn’t go to where it is… there are plenty of places that don’t allow smoking.

Not quite sure how to take that. Those with legal backgrounds tend to write the laws as well as fight to get rid of the ones that violate the Constitution for various reasons.

In a very broad sense perhaps. A “legal background” as I use it as well as what I commonly hear refers to those who have knowledge/experience with the legal system, such as lawyers, paralegals, police, legal secretaries, some governement employees, and those in many related areas.
My 3 years of law school and related work resulted in a JD (Juris Doctorate) and me being admitted to the PA bar.
With respect to those who write and vote on passing or vetoing the laws, there is no requirement of a legal education. A lot of those involved directly and indirectly are attorneys however.
Those who challenge the validity and Constitutionality of the laws are almost all attorney’s however.

so pretty much if i started a country club dance club in pittsburgh i would be exempt? juts make people pay a memebrship fee to geta card and make them pay the normal cover as a maintenance fee on the membership correct?
Ban fast cars also, don’t need to go faster than 65mph. While your at it, ban alcohol cause it causes liver failure and drunks kill people everyday. You might as well ban guns to cause those things can kill someone. Get real people, it’s a domino affect of bans, I say just ban politicians and all are problems will be solved.
Stupid point. If you are drinking and I am not- It is not effecting me (unless you start driving… then obviously it might) They aren’t baning smoking for the smoker’s health they are doing it for the non smoker’s health. Same with fast cars, If you take a potentially dangerous and fast car to a track, I am at no harm. If you chose to go to a shooting range or hunting in a secluded wooded area, you are not effecting me, and I am in no danger.
There are laws against ‘fast’ cars on the road, driving while intoxicated, and carrying weapons into establishments, public, and cars - because they could directly harm somebody else’s life.

To all you guys that ride motocross, your bike annoys a whole whole bunch of people. You like to ride so you annoying others is ok. Hey I ride also but I understand that it annoys some people. Most people also aren’t too fond of drag strips and race tracks. You can hear lernerville in sarver from at least 15 miles away on a clear night.
I don’t smoke, I don’t like smoke, BUT…
Everybody is the minority on something, everybody enjoys something that bothers someone else. People need to learn to put up with some slight annoyances from some people so others will put up with theirs. I would rather have freedom for what I enjoy than make everything that annoys me illegal.
You have to stand up for the freedoms that you yourself don’t necessarily exercise so that maybe others will stand up for the freedom to enjoy your activities.
(AP) PITTSBURGH Allegheny County Council may kill the smoking ban they passed on Tuesday after learning of a state Senate bill that would exempt slot machine casinos from the ban.
Allegheny Executive Dan Onorato must still sign the county bill, but now has told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that he may veto it now.
That is, if council doesn’t beat him to it by passing new legislation to withdraw the ordinance.
The county ban prohibits smoking in public buildings and places of employment – including bars, restaurants and clubs. County officials assumed it would extend to any casinos that are built – and are now concerned about unfair competition among entertainment venues if the casinos are exempted by a state law.
