and probably because you’re a rational person that can understand that the government doesn’t need to be legislating restrictions on the liberties of the entire populous because one group finds something another group does to be a mild annoyance. If people really wanted non-smoking bars, there would be more non-smoking bars. Since you non-smokers love them so much, I’m sure you’d flock to them. And since you make up such a large segment of the bar-going population, owners that didnt make their bars non-smoking would lose so much business that they had to make theirs non-smoking too.
Thats why all of the bars around here are already non-smoking, right?
Right?
Not to mention the fact that the bar owners rights are being trampled. It’s his business, his building. He can serve who he wants to, and no one is forced to go to his establishment. If you know that people smoke there, and you dislike it so much, DONT FUCKING GO THERE.
cry me a fucking river, faggot. If it’s too much for you, stay home and order a fucking pizza.
I wish the people that support legislation had the balls to say to someones face whatever restriction the bill intended to force upon them.
-“HEY 30 OR SO PEOPLE AT THE BAR? HOW ABOUT YOU GO THE FUCK OUTSIDE WITH YOUR CIGARETTES BECAUSE IT’S REALLY ANNOYING HOW WHEN I GET HOME I SMELL LIKE CIGARETTE SMOKE!”
-“I DONT REALLY GIVE A FUCK IF ITS 10 DEGREES OUT AND YOU SMOKERS OUTNUMBER US 2 TO 1… GET THE FUCK OUTSIDE WITH THAT SHIT, IT’S MILDLY ANNOYING TO ME!”
I smoked for years after I joined the Army. Smokes were always around when I grew up in the 70s. I haven’t smoked since Jan 2001.
Quitting was one of the hardest things I have ever done.
A guy that lived in the retirement community where I was a guard, told me that he quit smoking for 35 years. He said he would get insane cravings everytime I would light up outside his appt while on my morning rounds.
I am not a fan of smoking. I go to places that do not allow smoking, it works for me. It angers me to another degree when I see a person flick a cigarette out there window. especially in my neigborhood where i might have to clean it up. A cigarette does not change into thin air when it is tossed from your hand fuck face!
I used to smoke. I still smoke occasionally when at the bars. Smoke doesn’t bother me. I don’t really care if my clothes smell like smoke after a night at the bar since I’m probably too drunk to realize or care. Besides, do some laundry and the smell is gone.
I agree. What if the guy wants to smoke in the bar he owns? Tell him, sorry, we don’t care that you own the business, your personal choice that is legal everywhere else is now illegal in your own place of business…yeah.
If non-smoking bars were a good idea, there would be more. If you don’t want to smell like smoke, tell your friends you don’t want to meet at the cheap, dirty bar with the drink specials, go pay your money and go to a place that charges more for drinks and has a good ventilation system. Hit up the bar at Atria’s, you can sit next to a guy and barely smell him smoking.
i couldn’t give a fuck. i only smoke when I’m drinking and that’s usually when i encounter it the most. any other time do what you want i’m not one to complain
I smoke, wish I didn’t, but I do see the point. I just don’t see a compromise other than banning it from places where non-smokers have to tolerate it. There isn’t an easy way to appease both parties
you are only thinking about patrons. also think about employees, which is what the bill is aimed at. If you are part of a wait staff in a restaurant you are subject to cigarette smoke.
Then you are going to say “well faggy ass hats should go work for a restaurant that doesn’t allow smoking”. To which I’ll reply, “there are only so many jobs in that industry in pittsburgh that fit the bill”. Sure they could move to California, or New york, or Minneapolis, or Denver, or Boulder, or Charelston, or… but it’s a wait job, you aren’t going to move for that and I would bet that a large portion of the staff is here as students just looking for extra money.
The government regulated the coal industry. While black lung may kill you sooner than cigarette smoke, the long term effects of smoking or being in a smoke filled environment are just as tragic.
Sorry, but this is exactly right. The beauty of the free market capitalistic society that we “almost” live in (i say almost because the government is getting WAY too intrusive) is that some entrepreneur will fill a need if there is a large enough market to support that need. As DS said above, if there is sufficient demand for a total non smoking bar or other tpye of establishment, then the market will supply it. Then we all will have the choice of which to support. As to the staff, VERY few people make a lifelong career out of waiting tables, so that argument is specious.
The constant outcry for government intervention into every facet of our lives is troubling. this was a quote in this thread
What benefits do you get from smoking? NONE. You waste your money and in the end all it does is raise the cost of health insurance/healthcare for everyone else.
Let me change a few of the words around.
What benefits do you get from modding and driving a 400 HP car? NONE. You waste your money and in the end all it does is raise the cost of car insurance for everyone else.
Trust me, there are a LOT of people who feel that way out there. WOuld you like it if they were crying to the government to restrict horsepower and our ability to modify and enjoy high performance machines? i doubt it. It really isn’t an apple to oranges comparison, since both involve government interference in private business and private lives.
I do not smoke. But i would rather be mildly annoyed by Tom Vitos smoke than have the government pass yet another intrusive law taking away yet another piece of our freedoms.
If the Government cared SO much about everyones health, and if they are only doing this to save lives, then ban all tobacco use. Completely. If it’s that bad, make it illegal. They won’t, because it’s a huge cash cow for politicians. So much for our government ‘caring’ about us.
As long as it’s a legal product, stop treating it like it’s illegal, and stop interfering with private businesses. Otherwise, just ban it and be done with it!
I don’t smoke anymore, but when I did and even know I still think non smokers are just a bunch of whiny pussies. Nobody is FORCING them to goto a bar where people can smoke, nobody is FORCING them to be around smoke.
Since i’ve quit smoking, I simply CHOOSE to goto non smoking bars, just the same, they can CHOOSE to goto a non smoking bar and stfu.
at no point in anything i wrote did i say that a person should never smoke. at no point in anything i wrote did i say that they should ban smoking. someone asked why non-smokers had a problem with people still smoking at restaurants so i told them my opinion. it is my choice to go to those places where i’ll walk out smelling like smoke. it is yuor choice to smoke if you would like to.
i could care less what pisses you off. if you’re going to comment on something, get the facts correct.
i like all the people talking shit on smokers… lol … live your own life and leave others out of it…, beyond that realize that your opinion and wants are not indicative of rationalizing laws that enforce (or restrict) something to someone else. if you’re so tremendously burdened by smoking, don’t bother with the smokers but rather the establishments that couple you so close to these smokers. you can’t be mad at someones choice to smoke when it was your choice to go to where there is smoke.
wake the fuck up already… why does society have to protect everyone from everything they don’t like…?
i hate tommy tough-nut dick heads, should we ban people going to the gym?
i hate dick head drunk drivers, should we ban bars and alcohol?
i hate idiots that post stupid idiotic comments in threads, should we shut off pittspeed?
wah wah wah… if ‘society’ is so distructive to your lives, do us all a favor and stay home.
