Until the last storm (when they decided to add the gates, was that the night of Michael Buble concert?) the call was made by the thruway authority in Albany.
IIRC the call is now a collaborative decision by the local State Police and whoever manages the thruway authority locally. There was a big uproar about it at the time, because Albany wasn’t responsive to request to close.
with the number of people who make 6 figures working for the thruway, you’d think they could handle some of the basic obvious decisions.

yeah, spent most of the day down there on my quad helping plowing folks out, a lot of the roads are quite passable.
That’s a little too erect for my liking. Keep that thing flaccid and in the southtowns.

Made it into work today, but my loader path from my house to broadway has drifted over. Still no plow to be seen. Eh, back to shoveling the roof.

Anyone have an update from the Orchard Park area? Mother in law’s power is out and she lives alone, we’re pretty worried about her. Anything we/she can do?
Biggest problem is still that plows pushed a 6-7 foot (at least) snow pile in front of her driveway. She has a snowblower, but not a chance she’ll get out of the driveway without help.
Are emergency services available? It’s too cold for her to be spending the night without power.
If someone from this site goes and helps dig her out, I will buy you dinner and drinks later this winter when i visit.

Spent most of the day clearing out my dad’s place in Lancaster near Como Park. Streets are passable, but tight.
