Snowpocalypse '14-'15 - Now 13 Deaths

Ok I don’t understand people that have died, unless you’re elderly or ill snow shouldn’t be a problem. Of course a freak accident or car crash is understandable but just chilling in the snow and freezing to death when there are houses within a 1/4 is nuts.

Post more pictures! Glad I’m not living in Blasdell anymore lol.

  1. The ones on the news that died solely from exposure had mental challenges. It seems the rest were car crashes and medical in nature.

  2. I know first responders that have had the snow collapse under them in a snow bank causing them to get stuck over chest deep in the snow and unable to get out. If no one was there to assist them and it happened at night, it would be easy to die from exposure.

More understandable, the news I’ve seen has portrayed it as average people just on their way home.

This is the one that just doesn’t make sense to me.

Would you not try to make it to a hosuse or shelter? Can’t open the door, climb out a window?

Here’s my take-

  1. I feel like at a certain point, even if he knew the exhaust was covered, he still started the truck. It gets fucking cold and you probably start to weigh freezing to death over CO poisoning.

  2. If the truck was under 15 feet of snow, I wonder how long you can live in a sealed truck before you run out of oxygen. How much air can diffuse through that much snow? If the truck was running under the snow, I would be curious as to where it was getting the air from. Will it even be able to run long being covered under that much snow?

I guess if you think people are on the way to get you, you just sit tight. At some point you realize no one is coming, but its probably too late then. If theres 3+ feet of snow and you cant see a house-- you risk just dying from exposure if you dont have the right gear.

I’m taking bets on how long before another lawsuit is filed over this.

My problem is 12’ of snow didn’t just appear on top of his truck. He went in the ditch early in this storm. Even after a few hours when any reasonable person would assume AAA wasn’t coming there wasn’t so much snow that you couldn’t walk to safety. “He wasn’t able to open the doors”. Ok, but if I’m faced with freezing to death in my car or kicking out a window I’m going to go with option 2.

Like I said, this one just doesn’t make sense to me.

This should cull the deer population. Just sayin.

Spotted this down the road from me. Genius.

What are the chances of getting to opening day at holiday valley this afternoon?

Slim to none I would think. Most of those roads are closed a few people here that live in Springville area said it took them 5 hours to get to Amherst due to being rerouted and no direct routes.

When I have wrecked the first thing I did was get out to assess the situation. If I wrecked in the middle of nowhere (unless KTFO or broken back) I would get out and see if there was anywhere to walk to once the shit hit the fan. Also I’m a busy body, always thinking so I would be incapable of just sitting there waiting to die. I’d be out and about, checking the car incessantly etc…

Dat traction tho.

Individual responsibility is a concept lost on a lot of people

Cuomo can’t personally save us all?

From a great movie… The Edge

Charles Morse: You know, I once read an interesting book which said that, uh, most people lost in the wilds, they, they die of shame.
Stephen: What?
Charles Morse: Yeah, see, they die of shame. “What did I do wrong? How could I have gotten myself into this?” And so they sit there and they… die. Because they didn’t do the one thing that would save their lives.
Robert Green: And what is that, Charles?
Charles Morse: Thinking.

That quote really sums it up. There are people who never stop thinking during an emergency, and there are those who curl up in a ball of doubt and wait for someone to help them. In some of the news comments yesterday I saw some woman complaining that all 3 doors of her house were snowed in. House doors open in, dig your way out. No one from the government is going to dig a path right to your door lady.

With all his hot air I’m surprised they aren’t using his speeches to clear the streets.
