@Fry, your photo made theCHIVE today, they have a whole category for us!
I’ve decided to donate every penny I’ve made off of that pic to NAMBLA, in geehee’s name.
Man, I wish I had one of those.
which photo dis be?
Another building in the same area collapsed with 4 guys on the roof nobody got hurt
My mothers district is staying closed until December 1st. Jeez
150 roofs collapsed today in Cheektowaga.
That’s crazy! I just finished shoveling my roof.
A crew from Albany came out to buffalo to plow and remove snow for people. They’re on my street now, doing driveways for $100. Not a bad price since they’re using a bobcat and its taking like 30min a driveway. I had them plow/remove snow around my work van that’s parked in the street stuck in snow.
I don’t think it’s a bad price considering all the time it takes per driveway and fuel costs, people’s wages.
The amount of time I spent on my driveway, I would gladly have paid $100.
Source?

Me too. I just got done with a two day exercise myself just to watch some guy in a giant loader clean out my neighbors driveway like a boss.

That seems good enough…

Just cleared my basement/remodeled mancave in preparation of some flooding. I’ve never had water down there, but I’ve also never had 5 ft. of snow surrounding my house…
I have the cover off the sump crock and I have a spare pump should that one fail or can’t keep up.
I shoveled the flat parts of my roof today for the second time so I can rest easy now.
My roof is at least a 12/12 pitch and the front corner just “avalanched” a full load…right onto the walkway to my door. Right back where I started again over there. I guess the good news is I don’t need to shovel it off, just the lower garage roof area.

Shoulda went with a heated driveway
my self and every other neighbor.
This episode has me seriously considering it as an option for the next home upgrade.
BobbyG is right. It’s not a “hard” number but a rough estimate from inside the disaster and center which happens to be at the Cheektowaga fire training center.

Some raw data and advice for everyone…
snow weighs 1.25lb per square foot for every inch of depth. When you have 54" of snow on your roof that’s about 70lbs per square foot, for dry snow…most houses in Cheektowaga were built when 60lbs per square foot was required design load!
SHOVEL OFF YOUR ROOF! Wet snow is much heavier but I don’t remember the rate to calculate vs the 1.25lb I quoted.
As as for flooding, national weather service came in and took core samples of snow throughout the county and determined rainfall equivalents…the worst areas at 84" of snow equates to roughly 7" of rainfall, but since it’s snow the rate at which it melts will be closer to an inch of rain per day if not less. I know I’m Cheektowaga our overflow pumps kick on at a half inch of rain but at only a half inch they don’t run long, so without substantial ACTUALITY rainfall to contribute the volume isn’t the concern, the access points for drainage are the concern.
So if you know there’s a storm drainage grate in front of your house, do your part and shovel it clear so the water has somewhere to go and make sure your sump pump lines are directed far away from your foundation as possible and you probably won’t have much of an issue.
Sorry, I don’t have BOBBYGRV money. Maybe next time.
