Live and learn. My first house had a sump pump and my house flooded about 5 times from both pump failure or power outages.
Battery Back up with a 2 pump system here.
So far so good, but I will probably upgrade the main pump soon.
Water backups are the optimum backup solution IMO. I plan on installing one when I do my drainage. Or we could all build on the hill and play the game smart like Blue Eyed.
You get an extra discount on Homeowners insurance if you do have a backup on your sump pump. Make sure you get that credit if have/plan on having one installed.
Well, now’s the perfect time if I need external drainage, since I have no landscaping except some new stuff in the front that I could still transplant.
Trust me, I’ve thought about it…
That was going to be my next purchase, a battery backup in case I lose power when I’m out or sleeping. That was the cause of the last flood, but then I had the drainage pipes snaked out, as they were almost completely blocked with mud.
After my disaster of a house in North Collins which for all I know may be flooded/collapsed by now, if this isn’t an easily-fixed problem, I’m 100% having an estate sale and starting over somewhere and renting, possibly out of state. I just have shitty luck with houses. Too bad because I really love this one.
I don’t have a sump pump.
Does the term “buffalove” drive anyone else up the fucking wall or is that just me?
I should get a discount for having zero sump pumps.

The funny thing is, my old house was on a hill but it had a sump pump!!! The water pumped up then ran down hill. WTF? It was an old house maybe gravity had not been discovered yet. lol
yes and when girls refer to their friends as buffaloves.
Poor guys posts his wives xmas card creation, which in all honesty has solid design throughout, and the whole thread derails. I love it, lol.
But… I don’t Buffalove it.
water tables are not at a perfectly level line. that particular location could have had a high water table even though it was on a hill. or the builder was used to building in swampland Amherst and thought it was necessary.
water fed sump pumps are an option as well for a backup. just throw a shutoff valve in there when you don’t have to use it to conserve water.
Me too, not a fan at all of cliche sayings.
Gravity is a new concept in many parts of NY.
My friend had one of these installed a couple years ago and loves it. The float switch for it is calibrated higher than his main sump so it never kicks on unless the main sump doesn’t work, no shut off valves needed.
Gravity is a Liberal thing!
It’s a conspiracy to keep people down.
Ugh, that was fucking awful. I feel shame.
I will have to do that. I have a water backup but it will run when I have the shutoff open and I don’t want that so I have the shut off closed and will only open it if I get a water alarm on the floor.
but it sure was punny!
we were not charging storage. we charged 275 for shoveling the car out, winching it to the road or a safe spot to hook up, and to tow it to the designated lot by the police
