figured i should update this. been doing little random things each day and driving it atleast a little bit almost everyday. should be getting tuned either tonight or tomorrow. heres the progress up to last night. hope to have my engine brace finished tonight. still waiting on my buddy to finish polishing my foose wheels, starting to get pissed that hes taking forever on em.
made a shorter hood prop for shows and cruise nights.
used 5/16" rod to brace where i cut out the bracing in the cowl. still need to shave some holes and such.
shortened my taylor thundervolt 50 10.4mm wires, and also put some insulated boots on them and put those back on
still had issues and wasent happy with the other mount for my fpsi gage, so i made a new one that looks better and clears the hood 100% when opened.
pic from the other night…modified my engine brace a little bit painted it and put it back on.
if youre wondering why, well i was bending motor mounts before so this helps keep the engine from moving around so much without making it completely solid.
I want to run. battle for the fastest N/A small block non ls mini truck on the forum. next week or something. I only have a few more issues to iron out.
^^^est. power between similar builds ive seen and the bogus comp cams computer program i have i anticipate it to be a little over 500hp at the crank. i will be making a stop at spinna’s soon to put it on the dyno though.
karter - what are you building? i thought you had a car before but from some of the fs threads it sounded like you have a first gen? id like to check out your build sometime im not too far at all from sanborn. as for getting some runs in, i dont hook at all lol. even from a roll if i put it to the floor i spin. ill go cruise and play around a bit but after i get some decent traction though i would def be in for hittin the track for some runs
got the truck tuned today…runs amazing, spot on perfect. buddy of my uncle, hes a freakin genius with engines. if anyone needs their carbed motor tuned let me know and i can get you his shop number. ill be giving pat a call this week to see about getting the truck on the dyno at spinnas
tomorrow i have a few odds and ends to get done on the truck, might have some pics then.
made some hold downs for my front brake line since i routed that differently then factory(infront of crossmember instead of behind, makes things easier to work on with more clearance)
also my other 2 wheels are almost done being polished so those will be ready to mount tires on this week.
got my new tires today. got a pair of kumho ecsta ast’s 245/45/17 new for 185 and a pair of kumho ecsta supra 285/40/17 with about 20 miles for 100 for the pair. so i held off on drag radials since the 285’s were so cheap. will be getting these mounted this week.
got rear tires mounted and on yesterday, leaving work early and getting fronts on today. then alot of detailing for tomorrow the olcott beach show. wheels still need some more polishing but that will be a winter project. theyre good enough for now. this winter i will be tunneling the floor for more driveshaft clearance and then dropping the truck another 1-1.5" so it just tucks a little bit of tire.
rear tires mounted.
rear wheels on. had to trim bracket on traction bars a little for tire clearance.
made some sparkplug wire hold down brackets today so my wires will stay tight to the valvecover and away from my headers. had a hard time figureing out how since my cover bolts were recessed in the cover, but thought of probably the simplest way of holding them down while still making it hard to see so it still looks clean. then went for a cruise.
the hold down, theres one on each side.
the setup, im sure you can figure it out.
cruised out to tuscarora state park in wilson
then at a orchard warehouse on my way to olcott
the truck and the daily. both still need some more work haha
got the truck weighed today on my lunchbreak. i know theres alot more weight to be taken out of the doors and under the bed and such, but im not too worried about it. went to the scale on river road in tonawanda. truck came in at 3080 lbs with a half tank of gas and me in it. so i figure with gas weighing about 6 lbs a gallon and my skinny ass weighing about 150 then the truck weighs just shy of 2900 lbs. not too bad for a small pickup i think.
the 1st gens are lighter then the 2nd gen…the 1st gen has less sheetmetal from the simpler body style and the frames arent boxed in as much as the 2ndgen. the boxed frame usually stops shortly after the front clip where it is just c channel the rest of the way back. on the 2nd gen it actually is boxed in to the first bed mount. id say youre probably already as light as mine.
