After pulling some strings and paying for the Niagara Air show as a “sponsor” I was given the opportunity to fly in the Blue Angles L-39 Jet with a very experienced pilot.
Quite simply, this was the most phenomenal experience of my life to date. After signing the safety waivers and getting buckled in, I took a 20 minute flight with plenty of opportunities to test the physics of this jet. We performed several barrel rolls, low altitude flybys, inverted maneuvers, steep inclines and dives. I didn’t get a good feel for the speed until we made a low altitude (100ft) flyby over the air field at about 450mph.
It was like an extreme roller coaster, but much higher and smoother.
The experience furthered itself when I was given the opportunity to have a few drinks with all the pilots back at the base. While waiting for traffic to clear from the show, I met some amazing people, heard some amazing stories, and made some great new contacts.
Luckily, I met 2 retired fighter pilots who are more than willing to give me rides on their jets as long as I cover just the cost of fuel.
That is pretty rad. Any chance you could convince one of these pilots to let a friend with some cash go for a spin? It would involve sexual acts performed on you unlike anything youve ever experienced
Dude, that rocks! I went up twice with the Red Baron Stearmen team, for some short 10 minute flights. They use old school bi-planes, so certainly the speed factor isn’t there, but they are so freakin manuverable it’s unreal. The weird thing is that right in the middle of a crazy trick the pilot is just talking your ear off, telling you how many G’s you are pulling, while you’re being tossed around like a rag doll, lol.
