So, I've driving a time bomb...

Kind of a scary thought…really scary actually…i coulda blown up at any momeny…

Here’s the story leading up to my scare…

At mighty last week, Onyx noticed a gas smell from the 3 Z’s and thought it was mine or Woody’s…

I had just filled up the tank, and usually can smell gas for a bit after i fill up since the pump is right behind my head when i drive, with just a thin piece of carpet covering it…so i thought it was normal…

I grabbed a screwdriver yesterday, and was gonna go take out my ECU and ship it out for my reflash finally…only to see a puddle under the car

:frowning:

Its more of a dark spot on the street than a puddle…and i had trouble getting any of it to stick to my hand, so i wiped my hand on the bottom of the car where it was dripping from, and sure enough…that’s some gas…

i just jacked up the car and took a looksie…and from under the car, i couldn’t really figure out where it was coming from…all i knew is that the fuel filter was above where it was leaking from, so i pop the hood…

Turned out that a 6 inch piece or so of line that goes from one bracket to another bracket, just before the fuel filter…was leaking down by a clamp…no big deal, cheap part, i can squeeze an arm in there and should be able to take care of it in 30 minutes…

BUT…for those of you that don’t know Z’s (which is the greater majority on here), the location i’m talking about, where the fuel was leaking…wasjust 3 or 4 inches from one of the turbos… :ohnoes:

Looks like i’ll be rocking the civic until i get a chance to work on the car, which unfortunately won’t be until Tuesday due to term papers and exams that will take up all of my free time until then

let it blow up ud be better off

get down there, inspect it a bit more and light a cigarette to ease the stress a bit

i had issues with the same thing in my z. i just bought a whole shitload of fuel hose and went to town replacing them under the hood. its worth it just to replace all the ones u can get to then to have to do it later on.

I worked on a 300ZX not too long ago that had the same issues. The hoses that they use to go from rail to rail were splitting and could have burst at any moment. Pretty crazy and scary.

remember @ carlisle when onyxz had the fountain leak coming from his fuel hose? the thing was spirting fuel like 12-18 inches out of a pinhole

Not a good place for a leak.
The 20v turbo Audis in the early 90s had a problem of a gas line leak that burned up quite a few engines. They fixed the problem with a hose that could withstand more heat.

same kinda thing would happen with 2nd gen rx7’s IIRC

What happened to “I am gonna still rock it…because I live dangerous” ?

:stuck_out_tongue:

You should replace your fuel hoses IMO every 9 months or so on a modified Z. The leaks always start in the winter when the heat from the motor expands / contracts the hoses.

There isn’t much hose, and it isn’t expensive… but fires are not cheap.
