my 240sx is making a louud knocking sound and my oil light is on…
i just changed the oil today and started it up and the light was still on
i checked inside the valve cover and i found like bits of plastic and ther
was the little plastic ring from an oil bottle that came off into it…i dont
have any idea what the problem could be…
yeah i have the same thing on mine but i dont feel any loss of power or anything and it just drove all the way from calgary so i dont know what to make of it
haha u guys have no oil pressure , thats why ur light is on. And knocing is ur motors internals moving and rubing without being lubricated. In a short words get an oil pressure gage and check ur presure. Well 1st of all make sure u have 4l of oil in there and that ur oil pmp is still atached to ur motor.

i have heard of oil pickups falling off in the pan so it wouldnt hurt to drain ur oil and check to see if it is floating around in there. could also be in an odd position in there, like if it is too low could have problems, etc. just a thought…
go rent oil presssure gage, by oil filter there is a pressure sensor , u want to take it out and put a gage instead and see what pressure u getting at idle. Get fsm spec i think its 60psi at idle while warm up and drops to 40 0r so once warm. If u any lower try replacing oil pump or check for any major leaks and of course the right amount of oil in the engine itself 4l no less and no more than 4.2L. Oil pick up woudnn’t fall out with oil while changing it . Pick up is like almost and inch in diameter and has a filter on it too. Ur timing cover has 2 oil passages and they have seals there that may leak and loose pressure also. :drinkers:
also when u say broken plastic there is it black? cuz ur chain tensioners are hyrolick and require oil pressure to keep black plastic covered chain gides in proper place. Of course if no oil low oil pressure they will shadder from chain slap and than by sittting in ur crank case would start melting and could get through oil pickup, once u shut it off an let it cool small oil passages get cloged with plastic like arteries with fat.
