I actually love Lockport. Even though I pick on the local juggalo’s (which most of them are friends unfortunately) it is a great little town. It gets a bad rep for some areas like lowertown but all in all its a decent place.
There is a lot of re-constructing going on around the canal and a lot of businesses are moving into Lockport. I would say right now is a great time to buy there.
Check that, I don’t know the boundries too well for lockport, but my girlfriends father lives about 1 block south of where the highschool is, and that is considered the city of lockport.
If you think about it logically you don’t get into the city until past high street, but I guess the actual boundries are a little north of that.
Where abouts are you? (EDIT: I can’t read…you said you were up near the drive in). I checked the address for the house i’m buying and it said FIOS wasn’t available.
I was born and raised in Lockport, the area your talking about is not bad at all. Traffic gets nutty, but youre far enough away from the bad areas that you shouldnt have any problems.
Im not sure about resale, should be somewhat stable as long as Delfi stays open, and it doesnt seem like they will be closing anytime soon. From where your looking to buy, you should be able to cut some time off your drive to the airport by taking backroads to work, Find Rapids rd, take that to Goodrich rd. That should put you at Main in Clerance and cut out a lot of Transit Rd’s traffic.
I hear that the lockport “mall” is gettin torn down to make a super walmart.
I used to live off robinson and transit right by that andersons there and the area was quiet usually it had its moments though. The only reason I moved out there is because my wife wanted a short commute to work and cheap rent. So I agreed to try it for a year and if it wasnt gonna work for us then we agreed to gtfo of that area. Now while Im sure my experienance is different because I lived in a 12 unit complex with all kinds of shady folks The level of ghetto redneck-ed-ness was kinda high. I did however meet a few people from the “first stop sign on transit” area and most of them seemed like they had been sippin’ sewer water for years. I know its kinda harsh to generalize an area but IMO never again would I live in that area. Its a good 20-30 min drive to anywhere I wanted to go and where I liked to hang out. The people seemed to be mentally lacking. As in the lady upstairs was bangin her nephew, and the broad downstairs was dating some crack head baby daddy who decided it was smart to shoot his gun inside because “bitch wouldnt shut up”.
IMO visit the area a few times during the day and night just to see if you could like it. Goto a few restaurants and bars ,ask a couple random neighbors of the house you look at how it is. Good luck
There is a HUGE difference between the Robinson welfare apartments in that area and Locust st in the city lol.
It is like any other city, there are shady parts and there are good parts. The general area that he is looking at isn’t bad at all.
The area youre looking in is just fine.
Youre a solid 2 miles from the “questionable” complexes on Robinson and even further from the rest.
The shitty neighborhoods in Lockport are extremely easy to pick out.
I grew up on the other side of Lincoln Ave on Locust St. just a few feet from the high school
I’m there every other day, my friends own Steves Custom Cycle. He lives on Prentice and I have been to bushmans in Lowertown a few times… was just at Gonzos the other night for a Child and Handsom Jack show
I wouldn’t want to live there.
On the plus you are just that much closer to reids.
I bought a house in Lockport 2 years ago. I wanted something with a bit of space from my neighbors but at the same time not so far out that the work commute would be too far. Lockport was the only community that offered this type of property that was still in my budget.
So after 2 years in this town, these are my thoughts. The neighborhood is really no different than the Tonawanda’s, or any other WNY suburb. The only thing about this area that has frustrated me is the lack of variety with the shopping. There is a Tops but no Wegmans…there is a Walmart but no Target…There is a Home Depot but no Lowes ect. If I had to do it all over again I would definitely still choose Lockport. I love my house, the acre of land its on and the affordable mortgage.
