Spark Plugs - SR

Did you know that many stock SRs come with heat range 9 Spark plugs from Japan??!

FPR9G from NGK

it’s crazy.

If you have one of those plugs, make sure you take it off and put in a FPR5G or FPR6G.

FPR9G will kill your gas milage because our weather is so cold.

u can go this ngk site and check for silvia …

PFR6B … this is wat NGK gives to Silvia~~

heat range 7s are the best IMO for an SR…

Actually, the NGK partnumber for Silvia application is PFR6B-9

They recommend a 6 heatrange plug, but you can go to 7 if you drive it harder, or boost higher.
The 9 means the plug gap is smaller.

People tell me copper is better on a turbo car beause its sparks colder?

Why is that better?

And why is a 5 better than a 9 in a turbo car?

5 is not good, 6 is ok for stock, 7 is ideal for a tuned car like we run.

For our application:

Engine runs cooler than expected (less power) = sparkplug needs to run hotter to stay in optimal range (5)

Engine runs as hot as expected = spark plug range is middle as expected (6)

Engine runs hotter = spark plug needs to run cooler to maintain optimum temperature. (7)

gap has nothing to do with the heat range of the plug… you may need to change it because of the heat range im not sure, but i’ll i know is that if you’re getting an SR, its cause you want power. 205hp is stock, any SR swap we do in north america will almost always tend to be 230-260hp just from bolt ons (FMIC, Exhaust, DP, Maybe boost control) so a colder plug is reccomended. Even for a stock car that takes a beating.

So a 7 is colder than a 5?

for NGK yes. they reverse their system

Copper is cheap. Most enthusiest would rather change the plugs more often rather than spend 4X the price. Just to see their expensive plugs foul out anyways.

So Sasha for us Canuks what plug do you recomend for daily driving a Stock/Mildly Tuned SR and For beating the ship outta it on the track?

Use Iridium 6’s for daily driving, and swap in a set of 7 coppers for trackuse.

they’re hell expensive…

$20 for ONE spark plug… you gotta be kidding.

just use ngk g power… i use heat range 7

i paid 25$ for a set of 7s for my MR2, same plugs as on an SR. they are mint. My car wouldn’t hold an idle before with my fouled pos plugs, after beating these they are still good, however they dont like being driven too slow, esspecially when the engine is cold, however i dont think that is just the plugs.

were are you getting your 7’s from. CT dosnt have them.

gottta order from nissan/toyota

does nissan and toyota carry iridium plugs?

Yes and so does CT

i wouldn’t use irridium on a turbo car… my personal preferance… NGK Rs

why not iridium? or lazer platium?
