5 is not good, 6 is ok for stock, 7 is ideal for a tuned car like we run.
For our application:
Engine runs cooler than expected (less power) = sparkplug needs to run hotter to stay in optimal range (5)
Engine runs as hot as expected = spark plug range is middle as expected (6)
Engine runs hotter = spark plug needs to run cooler to maintain optimum temperature. (7)
gap has nothing to do with the heat range of the plug… you may need to change it because of the heat range im not sure, but i’ll i know is that if you’re getting an SR, its cause you want power. 205hp is stock, any SR swap we do in north america will almost always tend to be 230-260hp just from bolt ons (FMIC, Exhaust, DP, Maybe boost control) so a colder plug is reccomended. Even for a stock car that takes a beating.
Copper is cheap. Most enthusiest would rather change the plugs more often rather than spend 4X the price. Just to see their expensive plugs foul out anyways.
i paid 25$ for a set of 7s for my MR2, same plugs as on an SR. they are mint. My car wouldn’t hold an idle before with my fouled pos plugs, after beating these they are still good, however they dont like being driven too slow, esspecially when the engine is cold, however i dont think that is just the plugs.
