i drive to work this morning in my winter car, D2 coilovers.
everything is hunky-dory, drives straight and smooth on the highway.
drove it at lunch, no highway, but no problems.
i drive home from work and the car is wobbling pretty bad on the highway…
i get it home and look and the driver’s side of the car is a full inch, maybe even more, lower than it was this morning.
i didnt hit anything and nothing hit me…
i took the wheel off and everything appears fine. the Tie rods are not bent, the coilover is bolted in properly.
even if the collars lowered they wouldnt do it so much and so suddenly…
the strut tower seems fine… the car is a solid car, no holes in the frame or anything. the whole wheel well is solid. i checked the damper piston and it seems fine. everything is in the right place.
doesnt make any sense to me.

keep in mind that i do slide the absolute hell out of this thing… when i was leaving work i was getting full counter pretty hard but didnt hit anything. immediately when i experienced the wobbling i thought it would be a bent tie rod from turning so hard while sliding down the street but i didnt hit anything at all…
thing is though that it really seemed like a single instance type problem… i mean, the perches dont just all of a suddent lower them selves that a full inch or more, that is like 7-8 turns of the collar.
i’ll take everything out tonite and compate both sides.
if that’s all it is, then I’d recommend getting a couple of 5-8mm thick donuts made out of uhmw for the perches, then you won’t need to worry about lube as they will slide and will last quite a while…
if you guys need some I can have some made, just need diameter of the threaded collar and outer diameter of the spring perch
i took care of it…in the snow, outside… cold… ghey
took both front coils out and the brackets were not very different, less than a cm anyways… but the pre-load on the spring was very off…
Since D2’s suck balls and since the snow is corroding stuff very lightly and all the grit and gunk in the threads my guess is the damper was actually spinning and the collars were seized to it and unspun themselves… it happens all the time when i go to change dampers, which i have done maybe 20 times now… gawd.
so there was that issue and then the tire pressure was low on one of my front tires which likely contributed to the wobbling on the highway.
i have this issue with my megans. ill drive to work and get out and the right rear tire will be resting on the fender. ill drive it into the shop to check it out and its at normal ride height again. still havent figured it out
