spun main bearing/overheated?

hey,
well i just got a 90 240sx and the guy overheated it in the summer. He said he spun the main bearing. Since he over headed it i figured id get a new head gasket, but could the main bearing mess up anything else?

Take yer self on down there to that ther junkyard and buy a new KAE.

I think you’ll save yourself a lot of trouble if you get yourself a new motor…i got a block here you can have.

It would be better if it were “Grammar Police.”

I never claimed i could spell well, or is it good?

Where’s the mods to clean this up? They are usually all over this stuff.

yup, just click that little MSN button down thur and add me

I cleaned up your horribly written post.

maybe you should write post’s like you would write reports in elementary school, hand it to a friend and let them check it over!

and is your car overheating on a regular basis? if so then get a new head gasket, it wont hurt, but you may not need it. also, what do you mean by, “spun main bearing”? i’m sure it gets spun everytime you move your car, do you mean there is a problem with it, (NOTE: i am not being sarcastic “blackapple you knob”, i haven’t heard the term before) if so name symptoms. The main bearing is a journal bearing, its oil so the term spun seems weird, the oil is constantly spinning arounf the shaft but the bearing is not an actual mechanism. People like to make up problems when they are selling a car, espically to someone who will not know of made up problems, so again post symptoms of how your car is running so we can help.

… and if your mechanical ability is anything like your writing, leave the fixing of the car to professionals. (BTW, i am just “giving you the gears” aka joking in a blunt way, am not serious)

Don’t worry… all my rotary friends can’t spell either

it’s the fumes.

Like Phil said, i fthe bearing is spund the motor is done. It’s not that you can’t fix it, it’s just that you can pick up a running motor from someone who’s doing a swap much cheaper.

What is a spun bearing? It’s when a bearing that is supposed to be stationary in main bearing cap, or connecting rod “sticks” to the crank and spins with the crank, intead of teh crank spinning inside it.

That’s the best explaination I could come up with.

It’s usually caused by a lack of oil… no oil, lots of heat, lots of heat everything expands and glues itself to other stuff. lack of oil coudl be caused by over heating for sure.

Basically once a bearing has spun, the crank is done, the main beraings need to be line bored (if it was a main) of the rod is done, or needs re-sizing. The rest of the motor woudl need checking over very carefully. At the very least you’d need all new bearings, and the oil galleries cleaned out thoroughly.

I’m not sure why anyone would make up a story about a spun bearing?
Does the motor run? If it does it must knock like a SOB, and probably has no oil pressure.

-Martin.

yep it does exactly what u say knocks like crazy. alright well i guess i’ll get an engine from someone here and save my pennys for a sr20

thanks for the help everyone
