SR20 to CA18 Swap

Has anyone done this?
Am i crazy for thinking about this? please list some reasons other then . because SR20 own

How much more work is it to change the motor the to CA18??

Thanks Guys

Drew

its just a bit of wiring. lol i think its awsome you want to switch to a ca18

well the parts are harder to find , they are more expensive because of the rarity but im just wondering how crazy am i?

Rad ports on on the opposite side too, but a KA rad is the same as a CA one

good job … props on this idea

do you guys have any technical info on the CA? like redline and stuff? How much power can be had with a mildly modded CA? are the motor mounts the same as the KA/SR ones?

www.ca18det.org They have good info on CA’s there including a crossover parts list.

a ca18 lightly modded can get about 200-220 whp, a mildly upgraded one 275-300whp at 18psi

just like an SR20, 300hp is very easily attainable with bolt -ons

Woah now, isn’t swapping in motors that are older than your production year illegal? Im not one to side with the law but… 1 you couldn’t insure it (well you shouldn’t be able but usually their pretty dumb at the registries) 2 if your car came stock with the SR then your fucked.

But on the other hand you can do anything you want if you dont’ get caught. Props for the CA love.

according to my insurance…i have a ka24e in my car and its completely stock

like scott said ca18’s can make 300 easily. a decent tune, upgarded exhaust, turbo, intake, maf, injectors, fuel pump, and your on your way to 300

hopefully this is a joke. :finga:

why would it be a joke, someone wants to put a better motor in the car than some chreap pop can lol

personally i am wondering why your not keeping the sr20

im just weighing the optoins out there really. I will be swapping in either a new Sr20 or the Ca18 hopefully by the end of the month. Its roughly the same price for a SR Engine and a CA18 Motor swap package ( motor with turbo and trans, ECu and harness. )

questions i have are, can i use my Exhaust? I have a 3" elbow, dp, test pipe , catback
wiill my T28 bolt on to the CA manifold?
whats the difference in wiring? Im sure i will find this all out when i read that link to Ca18det.net or whatever , but any help and less reading for me is better

thanks for all your help guys its all still up in the air so…only time will tell

A t28 will bolt to the manifold, and i believe the exhaust will work too. Some correct me if im wrong.

sure it will … im running the t28 setup on my ca

is the CA18 an iron short block? One thing I liked about 4g63 six bolt engines were the iron short block and pretty much industructible bottom end. The heads were a different story.

Not to my knowledge, I think they only thing they look at is the displacement. So you could say your going from a 2.4L down to a 1.8L/2.0L for “fuel economy”. I know its illegal in some places in the states but I don’t think so here.

this is all good to know,
The thing with my insurance is that they think i have a Stock 92 240SX so it shouldn’t matter.

I was reading through the CA FAQ on silvia , because the Ca18det.org site wouldn’t load on my computer, but someone mentioned the cluster being different , just like how in a 89-90 240 you neex the different cluster for the tach to work because of the electronics. Now that being said do i need to go to a 89-90 cluster for the tach to work becuase the Ca’s electronics are different?

thanks again guys

I am using a SR20 HUD cluster on my 180sx right now and it is working …
