sr25 swap in canada?

The best way to consider a project is to do some reasearch (read - NOT POSTING ON A FORUM TO GET A MILLION DIFFERENT OPINIONS OF THE PERFECT PROJECT CAR). Its kind of like asking what kind of girl you should date, its your call just go with what suits you best. Figure out what you want to acheive, how much you can spend, and the style of car that you want and take it from there. Posting on a forum (a model specific one at that) for what kind of car you should buy will just be an ivitation for some stupid bench racing.

From the list you composed it seems that you haven’t even decided what style of car you want, ie- import, semi-exotic, american psudo muscle car, etc. Post on some mustang, 300zx, porsche, camaro, and rx-7 sites for more opinions and confuse yourself even more  .

well thanks for all the replys. i will finish my research and then decide which direction to go. if i go 240, i am sure to be posting here for advice.
one more question, do you all get together at times for track days or swap meets ect.?

thanks in advance and peace to all!

i have a track day tmorrow aug24 @ shannonville on the FABI track between 5:30 and 9pm

the cost is $60 up front or $75 at the track.

if you plan on installing yourself, get an RB25DET and eat SR’s all day!!!

:stuck_out_tongue:

find me an AE86 with no rust and I’ll show you a nice project car (Fat chance).

think, power to weight ratio, 300+ hp would be SICK, itd be similar to having 400 in a 240.

RB swaps are gay in my opinion, they hang too far over the front of the cross member and make the front too heavy. and an rb25 is kinda dumb, youc ant get more then 400 hp out of them without building the bottom end, they have high compression for a turbo motor and cant support very much boost, if youre goign to do an RB do an rb26, someone told me the rb25 and rb26 are close the same, theyre not, the rb26 has a far superior head and bottom end.

and if youre thinking RB20, dont waste your time, all the bad of having an rb in a 240 with none of the good, SR is a superior motor.

theres a few peopel putting down over 500 horsepower at the wheels on stock SR bottom ends now.

and remember youre going to need decent suspension and chassis work to support big power which costs more money, equate that into you budget.

pce.

I don’t think RBs are all that bad. Sure there are two extra cylinders that hang over the front, but the weight difference is negligible. If it really mattered, a battery relocation kit (to the trunk) and a carbon fiber hood could more than make up for it.
Sure the RB25 compression is alittle high, but it can support just as much boost as an SR (and make more power to boot) with proper tuning. Any of the RBs will respond better to mods than the SR because of the extra 2 cylinders. The RB25 and 26 are extremely similar externally, the differences are internally.

I say, “to each his own.” I myself would take the sound and smoothness of an RB over an SR any day. 8)

Putting an RB20 or RB25 in a 240sx is not as expensive as you think. Skyline swaps are becoming very popular right now and it’s something different to catch the eye.

So, let me get this straight…

Do the swap because it is popular?

Or is it because it catches eye?

Or because it’s fast?

Tell me I’m wrong, but I think that for the first 2 reasons, people should own honda’s instead. For the third reason, forget the first 2.

u’ll be lucky to get an RB in and running - stock for 15k + car + mods + suspension + interior it’ll be at LEAST a 25-30k project

Your budget fits an SR20DET only.

Sorry man!

more like 10k, I can do cheap installs as long as the customer pays for the parts. Just figure out what parts are needed.

i think RB25 or RB26 is really too heavy for Silvia …unless u want to do drag … SR is better and its made for Silvia…~~

preach it brotha!

How heavy is the RB25 or RB26 compared to the Blacktop or redtop SRs?

who cares? its a skyline engine mmm skyline engine

It’s about 150lbs heavier than the SR, or 90lbs heavier than a KA. Not really all that much, when you consider the extra displacement it has over an SR (not to mention it doesn’t have a shitty valvetrain), and the extra revs over a KA.

Relocate the battery, and most of the balance problem is solved. If you told me I could have a built RB or a built SR and I was supposed to race with it, I’d put my money on the RB. More power, more torque, more reliably, and it all comes sooner and lasts longer.

Besides, like it or not, there’s the cool factor. I mean really, if you didn’t like cool factor and were just building a drift car, nobody would talk about S15 SRs or 6 speed transmissions, or Silvia front end conversions, etc.

Thats the answer i was looking for. I was just asking him, if he even knows how heavy it is.

Not a big difference, with a few minor changes it will even out like you said. Carbon fibre hood or fibreglass would help too.

The saying stands true…“No replacement for displacement”

KA24DE -----540 pounds( no a/c )

RB25DET-----720 pounds

anyone need an rb20?

Do you think that 180lbs will throw off the balance after relocating the battery and a hood swap?

My mistake. Still, that’s with no AC, which is a good 30lbs by itself. Take the battery out and you’re pretty much even again. With two extra cylinders, .5l more displacement, more revs and more potential than a KA or SR.
