Storing & Winterizing the Car

So now that August is half over I’m looking forward to the snow in Rochester.

My question is twofold:

  1. When do you store & winterize your car.

  2. What steps do you take?

When the salt comes, full tank of fuel and some extra pounds of pressure in the tires.

I’m going to assume you’re not from the area and you’re storing some sort of classic? Not an e36…

winterizing includes snow tires, snow brush/ice scraper, gloves and a top off of your wiper fluid.

Are you implying an e36 is not a classic?

:rimshot:

i appreciate the helpful comments.

was going to winterize your mother till i realized somebody else probably wanted to ride her all winter long.

i will be winterizing my car at the end of this month. take pieces of wood and put them under each tire. u can also leave your trunk open as long as you dont have mice that live around you, cause they will make a nice home inside there.

stabil in everything.

is it being stored inside or outside? id say put it inside jackstands under the frame and every few weeks start it up and let it run.

So search seems to be broken for me. But this thread came up, so ill try here.

What steps do you take for putting a car away for winter.

I plan to store my GTO in my driveway with a car cover. I didnt buy a car cover yet, but im wondering if theres a certain type i need, like something breathable?

Lol I stored my evo doing nothing. Half tank of e85. Nothing in the fuel system. Didn’t clean the injectors.
Put the battery on the charger, ran 9s.

ya if your only storing it for a few months then just cover it. may want to pull the battery or disconect it. but your fuel wont go bad or anything for the few months.

I always put Bounce fabric softener sheets in the cabin. Something about them discourages rodents from taking up residence in your seat cushions. Plus, they smell better than mothballs.

We use those in the cottage too, works great.

good tips in here with the moisture thing on the mirror and the bounce sheets - never heard of these

Now when it comes to getting a car cover, shpuld i really get one thats breathable or not?

I answered that 3 posts ago.

I might knock the snow off tho

All my cars are stored indoors, not heated, full tanks of fuel, with pumped up tire pressures…
