Stripped Lug Nut! HELP ME GET THIS SUMMABITCH OFF

I’m doing the brakes on the wifey’s car - a 95 grand am, and whoever put the lugs back on it seriously over torqued them. The lug iron with the car fits like crap and me, as impatient as I am, partially stripped them with it. The lugs feel as soft as butter but I managed to get 4 of 5 off by throwing the 12 point 19mm impact socket on them. At this point I just want to get this last one off so I can buy replacement nuts.

Question: how do I remove the last stripped lug nut? what shop will do it quick/cheap if I can’t figure this out tonight?

Help!

Buy a cheap socket 1 size smaller (or sacrifice one of yours). Get a good sledge or other hard hammer. Hammer the fuck out of it. You might be able to get the lug out of the socket afterwards using a punch or something, coming in from the wrench end of it.

Might also want to mess around with metric vs sae to find something that just BARELY doesn’t fit on so your hammering job is easier.

I tried hammering a smaller one on, maybe I’ll go back out there and wail on it some more

:word: to Brent. Exactly.

brent I owe you a cookie.

18mm = sacrificed :smiley:

FTW! Glad it worked. Now spend a bit of time saving it, if it was a decent socket. I didn’t really have an option when I was using my dad’s Snap-on impacts for this type of stuff. Would have gotten quite an ass-whoopin otherwise.

Snap On Lifetime Warranty FTW

Good work on getting it off.

If anyone else has the same problem in the future I have a set of Specialty Lug Nut sized Bolt Extractors.

that works on wheel locks too.

…when you buy a car notice if it has them, and get the key. :smash2:
