Subs under the seats?

Anyone try installing small powered subs under the driver’s and passanger seats? I was thinking of getting two smaller powered subs and putting one under each seat in my 07 Mazda3. I want to run them off of the stock HU because I like the look of the stock unit but there just isn’t enough low end coming from the speakers. Has anyone tried putting these small subs under the front seats? Also how hard would it be to run the subs off of the stock HU? I know you guys probably aren’t familiar with the Mazda3 HU, but is it possible to run subs off of a stock HU? (If you can’t tell, I am pretty much an audio newb)

I have experance with this, A guy came in to bestbuy a year or 2 ago and Had an Imprezza with a powered factory sub under the passenger seat, He wanted to upgrade it. On bestbuy.com I beleive it is a kenwood powerd sub 2 6.5’s I put it in. It was decent IT def added depth to the music, I think its just over 200 or so and it comes with all the wires needed to do so…(to the factory Head unit)

goodluck, Also its not bad to install Esp if your factory amp is under your drivers seat…

See, I might have a problem then because my factory system does not have an amp. Do you think that the Mazda3 HU might have a place to hook up a sub?

nonono The speakers are powered they have there own amp! it will work

I did some searching on Crutchfield.com and here are the 3 options I came up with. Which one do you guys think would give me the best bang for the buck. Remember, I am not looking for HUGE bass, just want to even things out and add some depth. Not looking to rattle any windows.

I dont know

the kenwood added some and it looks like the best one

under the seat generally is not a good place for anything but trash and the ocational french fry or two.

Have you considered beefing up your front doors with deadener? Even with stock speakers, you’d be suprised how low they can play. Probably as low as a crappy little unit like that will.

So maybe you think it would be a better use of cash to get a 4 channel amp and get new door speakers in the front and back (no deck in the back it’s a hatch) and get some good deadening material?

no the under seat sub sounds pretty good dont listen to the newb

agreed, anyone remember bass shakers? I used to have them in my Supra. Its not really a speaker but a motorized weight that gets signal from the sub amp and vibrates the seats in the same frequency that subbs are playing. they were pretty cool, but it made looking at the road similar to looking out the rearview mirror, blllurrrrryyyy

ninja edit: here they are http://www.smarthome.com/8249p.html

I am interested in seeing how this turns out for you.

Not sure when I am going to do this. Since summer is almost over, I may end up waiting until late winter or next spring. But I will definitely keep everyone updated and do a how-to on it when I am done.

Just come up and let me throw it in for ya!

Yes, do it nooooooooooooooooooow.

late to the party, but i’m the second professional installer with this agreement. underseat is nice.

whos the first?

:ugh:

well maybe we’re not pros, but we can pretend

Uh huh…

Deadening and amplification and/or new door speakers are the correct way to go. How does stashing electronics under seats where they can overheat and get damaged even sound like a remotely good idea to anyone? Not to mention there isn’t any airspace, nor enough depth, to properly achieve ANY subbass.

And bass shakers weren’t speakers as much as they were vibration devices similar to whats in your cell phone. for-effect devices only.

Alot of cars put subs under the seats from the factory. And let me tell you they ALL overheat!
I beleive he is not looking for Big boom boom. and you will not get those 40-100 HZ from the door speakers alone…its just not happining!

Ive been duing this a long time and i know what sucks and what doesent…and subs under the seat do not suck!
