So I want to do a summer project on a 240sx S14. Should I go for the Sr20det right away or do a swap later and just start with the rb20det?
If you are going to stick with a 2.0 i’d go with the SR.
just go with the sr20 and be more reliable, just as quick and far better on gas…plus u will have some $$ in the pocket left over to buy some suspension or whatever u want…
RB20DET. No question. (IMHO - thx koz, pm if you’d like)
edit: big-byrd is right. read up. then decide for yourself. many many people go SR, on the other hand, the other engine options have their teams growing as well. whys that?
varun, isn’t your opinion a little biased, considering you sell sr’s?
instead of telling him what YOU (generally speaking) would go with, tell him to do some research on various boards if this one isn’t enough, find out pricing, other people’s experiences with different motors, parts availablity, etc, and then make an educated decision. and if you want to tell him your opinion, don’t just say “go sr” and that’s it. try explaining WHY with respect to the factors listed above. mmkaythx.
these may also help you with your search:

the list goes on. there’s more than enough information to search through to find the answer to your question.
good luck.
i gotta question… why?

lol… SR’s are pretty much the best way to go, especially in your case. RB’s aren’t very popular here, thus sourcing out parts isn’t an easy task, not to mention expensive.
Go the SR route, its cheaper in almost every conceivable angle. My guess is your not going to run big power. Stock internals are good for 400hp and no one on here is running that high, maybe happy240sx but that’s it.
Listen to Varun, he knows like everyone else. You will get more results out of the SR than the RB.
I was going to agree with dvstr, until he added in the last part.
SRs are super common (every honda kid knows em), and the engine/swap would be similar price.
Aftermarket parts themselves would be cheaper.
That is of course if you prefer Megan to HKS.
But thats why you go with the SR in the first place, because its cheaper.
rb… im not even gona bother explaining why… when you know the reason to go rb you’ll know why NOT to go with an sr
unless you suck at driving
haha nice one James.
Both motors have their advantages, they both cost almost exactly the same to get in to your car. Just do your research like these guys are saying – make your own call.
:compress: Like spilner said… go with the B16A Vtec GSR block LS head Vtec swap type R tranny brppppppppppppppp!!
lol on a more serious note, you should do some more research, it shouldnt be about what other people want you to think. But it’s true that there’s a lot more aftermarket support for SR’s here since they are getting so popular. But then again. an rb20det is sexy and there’s lots of other things that can be done to it as well. well that’s just in my opinion anyways. decided for yourself.
Go with a RB25DET.

from my point of view if you dont know whether SR or RB, than you need an SR, cause you just simply dont have a reason to own an RB yet, you should want RB only after you realize SR isnt good enough for you
Whoa, thanks for all the advice and more importantly the websites you guys provided. I still have a couple months till the summer so I will do the research and get the engine that fits my style best. As for the B16A Vtec GSR block LS head Vtec swap type R tranny brp, I’ll wait till I can afford it
Good call, and good luck. Cheers.
rb20’s are shit sr20 all the way
Straight up word on the street RB20’s are Doggs…
Find yourself a nicely pulled SR29DET motorset from someone reputable and just drop it in there.
RB’s are too much work for what they are worth.
With the money trying to get one in there you can take that and spend it into mods on your SR.
Sorry, not sure what you mean. You want to start with a RB and do a swap later with a SR. And secondly, search. It’s your car, and your money, make your decision.
BTW anything is fast if it has:
