Suspension Problem

My front driver side shock is touching the wheel, ie the spring seat is resting on the inner edge of the tire. The car also pulls heavily to the left if i let go of the steering wheel,

i’m thinking its the ball joint but i’m not sure. Any ideas of what could be the problem?

ur ball joint…dont drive it

what size wheels and tires do you have including offset?

The wheels are stock 92 wheels with 205 /65/r15’s on them. All stock suspension. Previous owner had lowering springs on them but put it back to stock.

well if the rim and tire sizes are stock and it is rubbing… you have big problems… check to see that the spring is sitting in its seat properly. remove the rim and check everything out… make sure all the bolts are in the suspension properly.

That is not a normal problem at all.

the spring seat should never touch the tires if you have stock wheels and tires on because the bottom of the shock has a bracket that’s bolted to the upright where your hub for the wheel sits…

so, you should definitely check out the lower control arm, the balljoint, and how the upright is sitting on that balljoint.

ur tires are oversize both in width and height…

atleast teh ones on my 91 are only 195/60R15
therefore u tires are 5mm wider and 36mm highter in radius

stock 240’s are either 20560r15 or 19560r15…two different tire sizes on two different models of a 240

he said that he has the stock 92 rims, so that means that they are the 195/60R15.

they are not stock sized, but I highly doubt that 65’s would rub and not 60’s…

Are they rubbing on the tread or sidewall?

My car is an 89 hb, also the passenger side is fine and the 2 front tires are the same size. The spring seat on the shock is touching the top of the tire(the tread) and not on the wall.

I had stock rims with 205/60R15 and had clearance.

Problem has been fixed. It turns out the balljoint was not the issue, it was the spring hat, there was play in the mount. So i just swapped the shock assembly from my parts car and now theres no more rubbing.

Thanks for all the ideas

I’m glad you got it fixed man, that would have eaten through tires very fast.
