swapping

Hey everyone, not sure if this is the right thread, if not please direct me to the right one.

If i were to buy a automatic 240 and want to swap it to manual. obviously knowing all the parts i’d need. how hard is it to do? is it a weekend thing or will it take me atleast a week?

ive done it in mazda’s/ford escorts almost so much i can do it blindfolded. currently all i am finding is auto 240’s so is it hard to swap auto to manual in one of these?

thanks for reading.

cheers

haha, well awesome

Pretty straight forward swap, as long as you have some mechanical skill it should be easily doable in a weekend.

alright awesome, im pretty mechanically inclined, now things like yolks for driveshafts are they the same between auto and manuals?

I believe the auto driveshaft is either too short or too long. The auto s13 you looking for is equipped with abs or non-abs?

You will need a clutch pedal with master and slave. Manual brake pedal or cut the auto one shorter. Tranny. Driveshaft abs or non abs whatever the diff is. There’s a couple of how-to threads floating around on the interweb http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/240sx-manual-trans-install-tutorial.html

awesome write up, thanks so much

also i hope to find a non abs model. less junk to go wrong. im pretty much looking for a beaten up old thang that needs some restoring. but i dont want something thats been tracked every second weekend and needs frame rails floors strut towers and rear quarters.

Wife swapping?

no not wife swapping, dont need to hear someone elses nagging voice day in day out.

even if yours is abs…u can just rip out the unit and rerun some brake lines…done it a few times

yea, what is the difference though with abs and non abs models? something to do with differentials? having sensors on them as well, or? i plan on learning EVERYTHING i can before next spring/summer on these cars so i can just jump into a project and get it done. i’ve been working on ford escort gt’s/protege/miata all the same engine, but i’ve been working on them for years and there like the back of my hand, i want the 240 to be that way to me as well

you need to get the manual driveshaft and the abs vs non abs diffs/ driveshafts are different so be careful, the driveshaft for the abs model is shorter, to make room for the abs sensor on the diff.
so when you get it take a look at the diff to check if its an abs( even if the car is just incase it was changed)

all in all they are very simple car’s, laid out very well and verrrryy easy to work on compaired to alot of stuff out there

Agreed, Since I’ve starting working on mine I’ve found more stuff just makes sense compared to other vehicles.

If this is going to be a project then you might as well rip out the ABS if your stuck with it, then you get minty fresh brake lines too.
