The governments bungling of the N.O. situation it even more embarassing than Iraq...

did I ever say all on it’s own. I didn’t say a strong thunderstorm could do it but a hurricane that hung over the area for 24-48 hours could…it is time not strength of winds

did you not read the link… storm surge… yeah you get that from a thunderstorm

man you must not look at geography much either. the storm surge of the lake was going away from the city as the storm moved over land. the levees on the gulf side did infact break from wind/storm surge but do almost every cane in NO. the 17th street levee that broke is the one that let all the water from the lake in which was caused to a point by the force of the storms winds and much by the heightened water level as well as errosion caused by rough waters on the lake as a result of the wind

read the link idiot

As Katrina moved over land Monday the water it brought surged into Lake Pontchartrain.

A day later, the straining levees could not hold back the additional water and they broke in three places – along the Industrial Canal, the 17th Street Canal, and the London Street Canal – allowing water to pour into the city.

when the fuck will you admit you are wrong. i post the facts and your too big of an ass to admit your wrong.

lol exactly the surge didn’t break the levees the extra water in the lake did. Do you know what causes storm surge? it has less to do with wind and more to do with rotation speed.

A storm surge is an onshore rush of water associated with a low pressure weather system, typically a tropical cyclone. Storm surge is caused primarily by high winds pushing on the ocean’s surface. The wind causes the water to pile up higher than the ordinary sea level. Low pressure at the center of a weather system also has a small secondary effect, as can the bathymetry of the body of water. It is this combined effect of low pressure and persistent wind over a shallow water body which is the most common cause of storm surge flooding problems.

:kekegay:

you are a moron. first off where ever you got that knows better than the weather channel I guess cause I watched today where the low presure is the MAIN cause of storm surge. 2nd off the lake itself was not part of the surge it was over filled by the surge so in all actuality the wind had nothing to do with the levees giving way as the water level of the lake rose beyond the breaking point of the levees because of the storm surge

PS- rotation speed is what causes the low mike denardo

IRT you are wrong… Period. This is off of the NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER…

Storm surge is simply water that is pushed toward the shore by the force of the winds swirling around the storm. This advancing surge combines with the normal tides to create the hurricane storm tide, which can increase the mean water level 15 feet or more. In addition, wind driven waves are superimposed on the storm tide. This rise in water level can cause severe flooding in coastal areas, particularly when the storm tide coincides with the normal high tides. Because much of the United States’ densely populated Atlantic and Gulf Coast coastlines lie less than 10 feet above mean sea level, the danger from storm tides is tremendous

So in fact I hope this site does know more than the Weather Channel consideirng its the NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER.

Fatality you lose.

(Down Below) Redneck don’t cry it will be ok.

can we just lock/delete all of these bullshit threads about the hurricane. It turns into political BS that has nothing to do with anything. We all know that everyone fucked up. Bush and the administration fucked up, the mayor and the city of N.O. fucked up, and the residents fucked up. I’s just bad all the way around.

Nobody is learning anything in these worthless threads and it’s a waste of bandwidth.
