Just buy a whole new engine and take the front timing cover. lol
i belive the front timing cover comes with oil pick up and everything, im too lazy to read the rest but it looks like shit via the pics…and the paint was bound to peel…
I have an oil pickup thing with the front timing cover and a dented oil pan I got for free with my turbo kit.
I don’t know whether to trust it lol. The oil pump shaft spins by hand, but it’s a little scratchy, probably because there’s no oil in there.
If I had the tools, I’d check all the clearances according to the FSM. I’m planning to tow my car to draggone’s shop so someone TRUSTWORTHY can work on my car.
I’ll keep updating this thread if anyone remotely gives a shit lol.
btw, I expect and look forward to multiple assclown remarks by Fobwall.
i doubt its the oil pump, i had this problem in the summer , Dan pye was there for some of the mess, its turns out that my engine builder got side tracked and forgot to put the oil galley plugs back in the front and the rear of the block, first got noticed when i lost oh about 4 l of oil out the back of the motor, so fixed that , then still no oil pressure took off the timing cover and same thing at the front , fixed that and boom after 2 weeks finally had oil pressure, first time i ever had that happen
Well AhmadG bought the car to my shop today, I took a quick look at the engine and I found a couple of things missing. (1) Knock sensor harness was not hook up ( at the sensor), (2)One or two bolts were missing from the outside corners of the head and valve cover. (3) The front of the valve cover was sealed with too much gasket sealer, some of the sealer could have clog the oil pickup?
I have a feeling 240coupe build this engine.
I am sorry 240coupe but you sub-contract the work out ( if you did), so YOU are responsible!!! He PAID you!!! and not the so call engine builder. You need to man up and get the engine builder information and give it to him so he could fight it out with him (if you did pay someone to build the engine). or give him back some money.
^^ from a law point of view, it is true that the AhmedG and 240coupe deal is legally binding… and it is not AhmedG’s responsiblity to go after the sub contractor thats a contract between 240copue and whom the hired! That would be 240coupes job! <-- (Im taking business law)
well for future reference, i have a shop at keele and st clair, bring it by i will help you with whatever i can, i hate when shit like that happens
Thanks for the support Stephen and Junior, I really appreciate you guys standing up for me. And Junior is right, it is legally not my responsibility that the engine failed after an hour of test driving and wasn’t even installed properly to begin with. To top it off, it was supposed to come with a 10,000km warranty and a build sheet showing what was performed.
I haven’t read the whole thread, but this sounds like a typical case of “I have too little money but have big ambitious goals, and I got screwed over”.
I don’t know, but, couple of years ago going with the local vibe of low balling and cheapening out, I learned that, you get what you pay for.
Also this is so true and it applies to all:
Cheap, reliable fast. Pick two, but never all three.
Cheap+fast = unreliable
Reliable+fast = not cheap
Cheap+reliable = not fast
Instead do the smart thing next time, make a plan, realize that you’ll need to make some sacrifices for this hobby (which is not always a smart thing, there’s more important things in life, but know what you’re getting yourself into). Research and research beyond son240 and your local sport compact car magazine and ebay.
Also do it yourself or get REPUTABLE people with experience to do it for you. Take your time. It takes time.
Get this issue sorted out of course, in all fairness but keep the above things in mind for the future.
Like when I budgeted a Ka-t build for 400whp or 600whp (depending on purpose and turbo size – yeah drastic power difference but different power band too) it came out roughly to 8000$… now… people were like wtf are you talking about you don’t need to spend on all that blabla, you can get 400whp from stock KA lolollol with good tune, etc… But reliably on track? For how long before it blows? How hard and how long? For 5,000km? 10,000km? 100,000km? 1,000km? Etc… You really get what you pay for. PERIOD.
Do it right, or don’t do it, that’s my philosophy with building cars anyways… I’ve cheapened out on things in the past and it cost me long-term.
If you’re serious about it, this is not a hobby that’ll save you money. It costs money. That’s why most geezers who are 40+ drive expensive or well built cars, while high school kiddies drive broken down cars and complain about things costing too much.
It’s not unachievable, you just have to be realistic and know what you’re getting yourself into. Don’t go whining about bad choices you made yourself. You have no one but yourself to blame. For every mistake I’ve made, I’ve got no one but myself to blame.
You want to be balllllerrrr baaallliiiiiingggg bliiiiinnggg luxuuuurioouuusss or maybe fuuurioousss fasttt ferrari yaaa? But have a salary of a high schooler or college kid, get your head bolted on straight and start thinking first then planning and evaluating the costs and realistic goals. A little off topic, but basically that’s what it comes down to. It costs to go fast, to stop fast, to corner fast, to be luxurious, whatever it be with a car.
And don’t DEAL with people who are crooked or cheap as well or unprofessional or whatever. Keep a circle of people in this hobby who know what they’re doing.
And get those rims properly prepped and powder coated man… or at least sanded down and prepped then sprayed better.
^^^^ Well said!!! I gave him an offer to do a Ka-t build, it was around $1800-$2000 ( stock rods with forge pistons and arp head bolt and metal head gasket)
I remember 240coupe making me wait a day for the RTV gaskets to dry before I got the car. The RTV gasket was seriously overused, and is almost certainly the cause of the failed/clogged oil pump.
This means that the installer (240coupe) was responsible for the failure of the engine. There were a few other things that showed an improper install that draggone mentioned earlier, especially the knock sensor harness not even being plugged in and missing bolts too. This was from a 30 second inspection, might I add.
I expect compensation.
Take him to small claims and stop bitching about it on a web forum.
