I know…thats what I said. may have been a bad example with the ak vs sks but yeah I said just that.
I need to disagree for some extent. I feel people should know the safety aspect of it, I feel that there should not be a test you take to own a gun. Hell, I had my first .22 when I was 6 and have been shooting since, for both target and hunting. Not once did I take a test to learn how to shoot other than the hunting course. It was taught to me by my father and grandfathers on gun safety, how to shoot. Just having someone take a test proves nothing. Hell, look how many idiots have a college degree that are stupid, and how many people have a drivers license and can’t drive. A test would solve nothing.
Shhh it makes them not liable but they can blame others. first rule of safety is cover your own ass lol.
But what would a test hurt? Sure people learn to shoot, drive, etc. without a test, but making you pass a road test certainly doesn’t make you a worse driver, and it least lets people know that you can parallel park, 3 point turn, and drive a few blocks without being a complete retard.
based on people I see, I would beg to differ. Especially prallel parking. But I do understand your point.
its as simple as this…its one of our freedoms to own and shoot guns. its one of the things that makes the USA great is being able to enjoy a hobby even if it has potentially negative repercussions. and any time big brother tries to be a parent and restrict that freedom we are moving further away from what this country is about. how long before some street racer kills an innocent civilian and the government restricts everyone to boring/unmodded cars with a top speed of 65 mph. because you dont need a fast modded car to get from point “A” to point “B” just like you dont need an assault rifle to hunt. so whether you agree with gun ownership or not, any kind of gun control is bad for this country.
not hand guns or assualt rifles, nope. They can’t drink either… btu that is yet another issue!
:deadhorse:
One thing I do know is that I do not want some irresponsible, untrained, and DANGEROUS (to society in general) person (age regardless) to possess hand guns or assualt weapons until they get the proper training to safely use them, plain and simple.
Just like the driver’s license analogy, a car can be used as a dangerous weapon, and proper training and licensing greatly reduces accidental death while using a vehicle, but it does not completely eliminate it. And with that said, just like driving a car, if an idiot wants to kill someone, regardless of the laws, they will kill someone, whether it is with a car, gun, butterknife, etc. BUT, I believe that proper training and licensing can at least reduce the risk.
I would never argue against gun ownership considering I own a couple of handguns myself (I <3 living in Florida) and I come from a family filled with hunters and sportsmen like my father and uncles. I have been shooting rifles since I was 12 (under the supervision and instruction of my father and uncles, and when I was not with my dad, my guns were locked in his gunsafe) and have owned shotguns and handguns myself and still do.
But, I would argue for measures that prevents FELONS, mentally handicapped/unstable people (as determined by a licensed mental health professional and/or courts), and minors from legally owning and possessing hand guns and assualt weapons which could potentially put innocent people’s lives at risk.
It is our Consititutional right to own guns and I will defend that right for all citizens (even though some here think I am a ‘liberal’ :rolljerk: Democrat). If anyone has taken our Constitutional rights and walked all over them and wiped their ass with the Constitution it has been the Bush Administration (Patriot Act). That scares me much more than anyone saying they don’t want hand guns or assualt weapons in the hands of minors or people under 21.
I’ve made this arguement about hand guns… Its like talking to a wall here… Good luck
touche’ either way, the point was ‘almost’ made by him but his arguement is basically= :deadhorse:
Hey awesome… Look at the laws on what happens if you “Lose” the weapon… and not report it.
Basically saying… you have a handgun you leave it in your front lawn… someone takes it… guess what happens to you… (findout)
edit: its pretty hard to find… I don’t rmemeber what the search string i’ve used was … but basically nothing happens if you lose the weapon… maybe a 50 dollar fine. If you report it, nothing happens in most states. Its garbage.
In my state of Florida here is the law:
FL 790.06 Section 9
(9) In the event that a concealed weapon or firearm license is lost or destroyed, the license shall be automatically invalid, and the person to whom the same was issued may, upon payment of $15 to the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, obtain a duplicate, or substitute thereof, upon furnishing a notarized statement to the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services that such license has been lost or destroyed.
edit: that is the law for losing your license…duh on my part, looking through my FL handgun laws right now… I do know you have to report it to the local authorities within 48 hours incldung make model and serial number of the lost or stolen gun. (that was in the concealed course)
that is talking about the actual license, the piece of paper saying you own the weapon… I was actually talking about the weapon disappearing
wat? he was talking about the gun itself, not a gun license
http://www.cga.ct.gov/2007/rpt/2007-R-0211.htm
Massachusetts law requires a firearm owner to immediately report its theft or loss to the criminal history systems board and the licensing authority in the city or town where the owner resides. Violators are subject to the loss of their license to carry, and a fine of between $ 200 and $ 1,000 for a first offense and a fine of between $ 1,000 and $ 5,000 for a second offense
:bigclap:
California recently enacted a law that would have required gun owners to report the loss or theft of their guns but the governor vetoed it.
Any one who owns a firearm must report its loss or theft to the local law enforcement agency within 24 hours after discovering the loss or theft. Whoever knowingly violates this requirement is punishable by a fine of between $ 50 and $ 100 (RSA § 11-47-48. 1).
:barf:
I seen that after I posted, I put in edit in the post after that :fail:
Here is what the law is in FL according to the bradycampaign.org:
http://www.bradycampaign.org/legislation/state/viewstate.php?st=fl
You do NOT have to report it here legally, but the instructor in the concealed permit course I took said you should report it to the local PD within 48 hours. NOW BACK ON TOPIC! :burnin:
I don’t know what side of this arguement you are on, but dear god if you have a gun don’t fucking lose it or let it get stolen.
I know in other countries after guns get outlawed many of them seem to get lost all of a sudden.
and the violent crime rate goes up exponentially.
