well the civic arena would have worked but the government indirectly undermines stuff like that when they pay people to stay home and sit on their ass. Segregation backfired horrible on whites. You put everyone together in the same bunch and now look what you got, hazelwood, homewood, COMPTON etc…If things were equal off the bat things would be much better off.

As for the UPMC / Pitt comment cutty, They may get away with taxes but they are also one of the biggest employers in the area which keeps jobs here.
I have always joke that Pittsburgh should either be one giant school or one giant hospital.
The steel mills are gone, the last thing you want is UPMC / Pitt to leave becaus eit will only go down hill further.
they are gettin away scott free thou, they need to pay their fair share, they aren’t gonna pick up and move and take jobs. the fact that they are the biggest employer means they should be paying the largest amount of money in taxes.
this the the tax them into submission theory that got pittsburgh as shitty as it is. The employees all pay taxes which helps.
Why? And they are not getting away “scott free.” Pitt pays taxes on all the parking, the land they use for retail, plus all the employees are paying taxes, they are bringing people in to the city, supporting businesses. They are creating jobs in the city. I could go on and on and on about the benefits that the Universities are bringing in to this city. It’s like the city getting angry at Duquesne for the apartment building they own - if they did not own and maintain it it would be a giant crack house. If Pitt, CMU, Duqesne, Carlow, etc left the city would die. Well, die quicker.
It is incredibly sad that a nonprofit institution is this cities largest employer. Attitudes like the quote above is why that is… If we can’t run the city properly, fuck the people that can’t just move and tax them.
UPMC is a Non profit orginization that is why they don’t have to pay and "get away “scott free”
U of Pitt on the other hand I an not sure of.

I’m not going to continue on about the tax situation of pitt because i’m not informed enough but my mother is a UPMC employee and i catch things she says and it mostly how they get away like bandits on the taxes.
another unrealted issue but still having to do with Pitt is the lack of control they have in oakland. Oakland is a dump because of the students. my grandparents have to put up with all kind of unnessesary nonsense because of the students. How would they like it if i drove up to cranberry and dumped garbage in their grandmothers yard? Some asshole had the nerve to tell me grandfather “you’re living on my campus” after my grandfather said something about the beer can the kid threw on the ground. He’s lucky i wan’t there cause i woulda tossed him over the hill in panther hollow. believe it or not people still live in oakland and they are treated poorly by the visiting students and its the fault of Pitt. Atwood street is a fuckin disgrace.

No its not becase they put their money back into the company. Thus being able to expand and create more jobs.

I’ll give you that, big time. It’s just not South Oakland either, north is getting the same way. There’s also some half way houses in Oakland that lend to some of the more interesting characters. I used to live across the Blvd by Dan Marino field which was sweet because there was not a lot of students. It’s not Pitt’s fault, it’s students in general. I’ve seen it everywhere there’s an institute of “higher” learning. Part of it is some of the land lords fault, some of it is the Police (and Pitt police)'s fault. You should have to take a maturity test before you are allowed to go to college.
yeah when i say its pitt’s fault i mean the police, pitts police has just as much authority there as the PPD. my sister lives in a condo in homes place so i know exactly how things are there by frazier street, not to mention i go to church right there on parkview. Those problems are half student half debeat residents but once you get around semple, oakland ave, atwood, thats all students. The land lords are to blame cause they probably live somehwere away from the city and don’t care about the people that gotta put up with the assholes they rent out to. I’ll put the burden on the pitt undergrads because i don’t believe grad students or the CMU geeks are the ones causing the trouble. infact my grandparent have apartments on both sides of them and they only will rent to cmu grad students because of the problems the others make. Infact they try to stick with males because females always leave the apartments a mess when they leave.
This state(Oklahoma) does need some professional sports. Everyone here is all gung ho about OU and OSU. I will not succumb to there level so I wear my USC shirt proudly. They don’t like it. But it seems that everyone is in full support of the two, but then again that could be because they finish the season well.
