The story of Sunoco

Come-on. I don’t think ONE tank of gas is going to clog up your injectors. I think your car may have other issues. When was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Do us all a favour and stay home

Sorry to hear about this Pavel.

Andrew.

That hurts, coming from you. I will have to learn you. :squint:

Okay, well lets think for a minute about what can completely clog up the injectors… hrmm… fuel exits the tank through the fuel pump, goes through the fuel filter on OH WOW! there it is!!! it’s AT the fuel rail where the injectors are! I fail to see what else could cause my injectors to completely clog up.[/quote]

thanks Captain Obvious, but in my opinion (as an auto mechanic) i find it extremely hard to believe that ONE tank of gas caused that much damage to your fuel injection system… and if the car immediately performed that poorly, and you “knew” it was due to the gas you had put in, why continue to drive the car another 400+ km’s 'til it’s dry?

then you claim you pumped another brand and the car felt good… so, your injectors somehow unclogged? BUT, only for an hour? and then they became clogged again on “good” gas? hmmmm… :?
is there a possibility that you had pumped gas during or right after the tanker had been there?

also, don’t you think this whole rant is a bit silly? i mean, all of a sudden because of your experience you’re never gonna pump Sunoco again?
what if next week the same problem happens after you leave the Esso station? and the next time it happens after you fill up at the Petro?

you may as well get yourself a Smart Car just to be safe!

all i’m sayin is that for the past five years my bros and i have always filled our tanks (SR’d S13s and a high compression Prelude), and will always continue to, with nothing but Sunoco.

He said he got a new coil as well. That has nothing to do with the fuel system. You can run the coil all day long with or with out fuel and it wont effect it. As for the injector going (same coil?) could be dew to gas. What was the engine codes that came on?
Acura might be lying to you about something. Did you say anything about gas befor they started looking? Some mechnic shops will fuck you to save there ass or make more money garnteed. They give me and koz a bad name.

does the car have a locking fuel door?

Shitty buzz on the bad tank of gas. But I also think there was more to play then just that tank. Acura is taking you for a ride, I would have the injectors looked at that were apparently bad.

As for Sunoco, I too have been running it in all my cars that require high octane and have never had any problems. Until there is another 94 octane station out there, Sunoco will be the only place I buy gas.

Maybe you got some sludge from the bottom of the Sunoco tank that go pumped into yours?

ok heres a better question, how many miles are on your car?

base warranty on an acura is 3 year/60000km but the powertrian is
5 year/100000km, if you under on k’s acura should be replacing them for free.

i used to work for honda, even though i hate the company this information may help you out

first off i wouldnt even take the car to the dealership, its pretty obvious that most of the retards that do work at dealerships are morons, you would be better off diagnosing the problem yourself instead of spend over a grand for a bunch of tools to replace your injectors.

fyi, you can take your own injectors out and have them cleaned for under 50 bucks and replace your fuel filter and remove your fuel pickup form the tank and change the sock on there.

atleast it’dll save you 1000 bucks.

 so ignorant

I had a friend who used to fill up at Sunoco. He put 94 Octane into his Acura Legend and his car wasn’t running properly at all. Well, turns out the 94 octane tank had been filled up with diesel instead. That Sunoco gas station ended up paying for all the repair bills for his car and many many others who filled up with the diesel that day.

Give us some background info then. I work at an Acura dealership and none of the mechanics are retards. Not by a long shot. The last place I’d be taking my 35,000$ car to would be “Dave’s Repair Shop”

what do you do change brake pads and do oil changes.

give me a break a dealership mechanics are ok at replacing OEM parts when they break, thats it. anything beyond that and its more like.
bob is working on a car he doesnt know how to do it, he walks over to jim in the next hoist and asks him how to do it, before you know it you have 10 retards trying to solve a problem.

How do i know, because i know dealerships and their mechanics thats how i know.

You need to stop talking out of your ass and being condescending. Aren’t you like 16? Many of us here have worked at dealerships, have you?

Typically the mechanics there are the most qualified and highest paid in the industry. They have the most resources and experience with the brand.

Maybe you knew a few wash boys and tech assistants or something who were jackasses, but you do not know how the majority of dealerships work.

Original Drift Master: its true dealerships do have some mechanics that are not very experienced but thats usually the non licensed apprentice techs. Don’t go bashing dealerships saying the techs don’t know anything because that is not true at all. Take your backyard mechanic skills to a dealership environment and see how long you last! The fully licensed older guys will know there shit! A job like this would be a joke to them anyways since its not very complicated.

I’ve been using Sunoco almost exclusively since I first got my licence. I’ve never once had a problem caused by bad gas, however I believe
that is what happened in Pavel’s case. That Sunoco he went to is one of
the older ones… so they probally had moisture in the tank from the temp
changes that’ve been going on all winter.

Anyways, until another station starts offering 94 in Ontario, Sunoco is
were I will continue to go… (except the one near Yonge and Elgin Mills :P)

Firstly, Original Drift Master has built some of the fastest cars in Toronto and I respect his opinion.

Koz, it’s a 2.5 year old car, properly maintained, you tell my why my injectors are clogged up then.

The reason why I took the car to the dealership is because I assumed the engine would be covered by warranty, but apparently 82,000km on the car doesn’t cover the coil nor the injectors. Besides, I really don’t have time or desire to fix a broken car now.

The reason why I think the coil died, now I THINK this COULD be a reason, is because the spark plug was so fouled that it filled the gap and the coil overheated from being shorted, causing it to burn down.

I will request the injectors and the fuel filter to make sure they are not lying, I will also ask for all the other parts they may have replaced.

Koz, yes, I will stop filling up at Sunoco. I do realize that a lot of people swear by it, and I probably did just have a bad case with this older station, however that doesn’t change the fact that now I have to pay out of my pocket for something that should have never happened.

I never said the car ran perfect when I filled up the next tank, I just said that it became slightly better. Honestly, I had no idea what the problem was, i SUSPECTED that it was the gas. I figured there could be water in it and once I clear it up, I’ll just fill up with good gas and it’ll all be good again.

Anyway, I’ll see what happens tomorrow, hopefully they’ll have the car finished by then, I’ll keep you guys posted.

i run shell becuase i like the logo.

sunoco is the best. petro canada 94 octane (quebec) vs sunoco 94 octane. on my same tune, 94 octane petro canada after 2 re-fills caused mild detonation, however sunoco 94 never caused me problems, so surely i switched back, and the problem was eliminated, for the same tune. lots of variables though.

sadly, i think in this case, someone sugared you.
