Youre just have to go get sign approval theres a form for it. They bring you in ask you dumb questions and allow you to or not have a particular amount of commercial signage. I had to eve to put a sign up on the kohls building like they would have said no but its just a series of shit one must go through according to the colonie books
Their taxes are going up, they will be in the norm soon.
If the town didn’t enforce the laws and regulations of signage, people wold be putting up what ever the hell they’d like; this includes big awful and tacky signs too.
In GearheadNY’s case I drive by his shop a lot and I don’t personally think there is anything wrong with what he has displayed but then again i’m not one to make that decision on what is correct and what is not.
This same sort of instance came up about 8 years ago when I worked for Cottage Agway in Latham when they were changing their sign. They put up a new sign and were asked to take it down simply because the sign was too big according to the square footage of the building.
Cossey is right, if you don’t check first with your town or city department with accordance laws you can only blame yourself when they come knocking on your door to make you get it changed.
Note to self:
If I ever start my own business, do not start it in Colonie.
Follow their rules and regulations and you have nothing to worry about.
The sign laws were followed and that’s the real problem. Unforutnately they are not specific enough to exclude certain things. The flags that I have out front are not american flags, but the reason they are there is because they are like american flags. So the issue is the ToC wants to remove something that, not just to me, looks like an american flag and might as well be one. I think they’ll be wishing they just let me have what I have in the first place. I will also be applying for variances as well because these laws will wind up hurting me in the long run.
You just need to get a sign permit. Short application with a fee of course and the approve or deny it and once you have that paper with the specs of what you signage is once its approved they cant do anything any more. I think it cost me like $50 for the sign permit at kohls. I lasts for 5 years or something like that.
there way too many to follow:wow… but all have there reasoning for them…
