The track

actually, the 3.5 in the altima and the 3.5 in the 350 are both VQ35DE’s. granted the 350’s VQ puts out more horesepower, but the altima doest have the extra weight of a rear subframe, independantly cased differential, driveshaft and many of the other parts that make a rear wheel drive car heavy. that is one advantage of FWD, the entire drivetrain is packaged into one neat, lightweight unit.

dont underestimate the 3.5 altimas. they are VERY quick in stock form.

Yeah, the 350z and g35 AND Altima share the same engine. Although the Altima’s VQ is modded differently and outputs 270 instead of 306 for the 2008’s 350z and g35. Also the Altima is lighter then both of em, id say power wise were close but handling… different story.

yea, i was saying about the handeling, i know like i said a million times before, that the 08 altima coupe is bad ass power, but it will definately need some suspention and grip upgrades before all of the stock altima power can really be squeesed on the track.

Hanzz, i see your point but having as much power as a 350 in a LIGHT weight fwd isn’t always best, unless the fwd is equiped with some handy dandy suspension and grip, rwd can be recovered if a mistake is made on a corner, fwd requires good suspension and tires to recover.

anyways im done saying, all i can say is to the owner dude just have fun, im sure some of these guys will be there and can help you on the spot.

I was comparing straightaway speed. Not handling. But how nice of you to butt in on any comment people make on TNC.

Theoretically, FWD is more forgiving when entering corners. FWD can brake later and deeper into corners (given they dont have abs). When you slam on the brakes entering the corners in an FWD you’re rear will tend to slip out unless you have some weird brake bias like preludes. When your rear slip outs the momentum will pull the nose of your car into the direction you’re turning. Altima coupes are running independent rear suspension, i think while stock, they wont have any major problems.

FF are awesome for exiting. Floor that shit and front wheel understeers but still pulls you right to the outside of the corner making a nice race line. While FR just slides out trying to follow FF lines.

woooo… didnt know the car was running independent suspension… Does the sedan also have the same?

I think im just going to track/drag once with my stock tires (All season garbage) and finish them off that way. Then buy some nice tires, and maybe rims if the cash permits.

Cant wait till racing season!

BTW, where are the drag strips around us?

cayuga is the popular one. I think every friday night they have open runs.

and yes, the coupe has independant rear multilink suspension.

dude thats what we have been saying, hit the track with the all seasons first they might be ish but they are not that ish that you can’t have fun on the track with them, as a bonus, at the end of the tire life burn out all 4 tires, i did that and it was FUN, when i had me 03 spec v 3 years ago.

ps; don’t forget the pics and the vids.

So is the drag strip open at times like these? Cold but no snow?
Thatd be cool if it was…
Also, how much is the drag strip? Is it per run or per session?

And to Ismo.
I know the theory behind a burnout, i havent really attempted. I dont want my clutch and what not fry.
Although id do it once or twice…
I’ve tried but only succeeded to launch the car…
I dont think its very healthy to burnout an FW car… so much weight on the wheels… + the differentials and what not :frowning:
