New to the forums and have some questions for the GTA people who track.
So i just purchased a 3.5 SE Altima coupe and want to track it when summer rolls around. I’ve looked around for tracks in and around Ontario but could only find that they run non-stock car races. Ive only found spots to drag, but i rather circuit race then drag. (FWD FTL).
Anyways get back at me!! I wanna track this beast!! VRRmrmMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!
Planning to use this grocery getter as my next racing platform…
New guy
sorry dude, but altima’s might have power and are awsome cars but they are no circuit cars, they are okay for drag racing but other than that you will have some crazy body roll on a track with that tank, if you are serious about racing as a hobby maby get another cheap car that is good for track after you have experienced a track day at battle endless with your Altima.
if you have the 1999 prior model forget everything i said if you have the new 2008 coupe forget everything i said, but if you have the 2001 type 4 door altima then really think about what i siad above. You should drag with your Altima it will be bad ass in that type of event.
Its a 2008 Altima Coupe, 2 door! Its like 100 lbs less then the Sedan, tighter suspension and what not.
Ok with that being said, being noob and all… If i go to the track, what do i do with insurance? Im assuming people dont race new cars because of accidents and what not…
Also, if i tighten up the suspension with aftermarket parts shouldnt it be an OK
-Once in a while- circuit racer car?
And on the Drag strip… I dont see that being as fun as doing laps on a circuit, maybe i should try? But FWD will kill me.
New guy
yup, if you have the 2008 coupe, then you should be fine, those things are sporty and much better than the 4 door altimas, if you have the 2-door coupe, just slap on some nice deep dish 18’s and lowering springs with tower brace and rear sway bar, and you should be very fast on the track.
don’t worry, i have been to battle endless before, and other than maby one or two new guys with fast cars most will be slower than your 250hp plus altima.
Hrm, im kinda scared then. If insurance doesnt cover any damages to the car during these days… Driving in a new car isnt a good idea.
My image of a track day is like what i see on best motoring where drift king and his friends are on each others asses while on the track. They look like their 1-2 inches away, bumper to bumper. Im 100% sure i would get owned if everyone drove like that… Since it’d be the first time on the track ill probably be using 100 of my ponies, and maybe let her rip on the striaght away. Although i would enjoy taking the turns fast, i dont want to slip out and get involved in a 10000 vehicle collision.
I think i should go when theres a noob day and theres ALOT of room in between cars…
uh yea insurance don’t cover shit when u at the track. so things tend to get a little expensive after awhile. like pyro said just take it easy the first and second day that you go to the tracks get used to it and comfortable first. it never hurts to learn slowly and are you driving stick? if so you may wanna practice your heel and toe a bit before you hit the tracks i highly doubt you would wanna screw up with some other noob following behind you. plus iirc most battle endless track days are pretty much all noobs. they have rules like signal to pass and what not so you won’t have to worry about some noob in a high powered vehicle blowing by you on the outside then sliding off track or possibly towards you. just keep in mind that its all just for fun not no competition out there its not best motoring canadian styles or anything like that. so if someone passes you don’t get all angry and IM GONNA SHOW YOU MY 340432 HORSE POWERS BITCH!!! and yes you should look into some 50 dollar ebay tie bars those tend to make a little bit of a difference.
Insurance won’t be a problem if you take off your plates once you get to track property and if you don’t crash. Accident’s on track is actually very rare in my experience. I’ve gone to a total of 12 track days. I’ve only seen 2 accidents out of those 12 sessions, and one (yes, just ONE) close call involving myself (race prep RSX mishifted and almost rear ended him).
Open lapping day is a very stress free and relaxing event, don’t be cocky and respect other drivers on the track. None of that Best Motoring bumper to bumper shit unless it’s a friend of yours and you trust his driving.
Battle Endless doesn’t even require helmets. I never wore one, too much difficulty breathing and keeping head cool.
Don’t feel bad about “new” car thing. I took my 350z to track within the first week I got it. Never regretted
I’m sure you were looking in the wrong areas when you saw non-stock cars only. There are several private and public organizers who organize open lapping days which allows pretty much any class ranging from stock to highly modified. Battle Endless is one of them.
Alright one more question involving insurance.
so when im at the track, i de-plate the vehicle and then race right?
Ok.
Now, how bout if some retard rear ends me and i end up totaling the car…? (Flying into the wall etc) will that guy be liable? Or will i just get a … " uhh sorry man"?
Id be pretty pissed if it was someone elses fault!
And first week of ownership on the track? you have balls… lol.
I dont want to make payments on a car i no longer have …
u better hope that guy that rear ended you is a really nice guy and pays for it other wise its on you. the thing of removing the plates is pretty much just so that these so called “insurance scouts” don’t know its you.
If he is a decent guy, maybe he will help. But if he ‘rear ends’ you while lapping, it’s probably your fault for not getting out of his way. There are rules on the track you must follow to drive safely. When you see a car faster than you approaching, let off on a straight and signal to the INSIDE of the track to allow him to pass.
Lol… thats true that im not racing… Never thought of that… Im just using the track…
Anyways, so i looked at battle endless and the track days are 100$ from 12 to dusk. Im assuming that means its a one time pay and play till dusk? (What happens if you run out of gas? :S)
haha Chow, you are getting the idea, as you can see alot of informative and wise advice from all the people who have posted to your questions.
Just remember, before you go on the track with the other cars, get comfortable in your car on the street, know how close you can get to things. Also try to stay at the end of the pack, but you will have to keep up if you don’t want to be lapped and have to move out the way and all over and over again, but chances are depending on cars, since the battle endless track id say is about 4km, i think that cars will run close and lap each other all day, just get used to using your rear view ALOT, while breaking and when exiting and entering corners, more than likely you will have someone on you, so you should be able to cordinated breaking and entering exiting speeds so the guy behind you dosen’t ramm you, and like Osad said its simple, just move to the right put on your flashers and the faster or guy in a hurry will pass.
its always a little scary doing things the first time, and i could understand your concern thats why i recommended getting a cheaper used car for the track in my first post, but anyways just don’t think about it go out there have fun, i mean i been there few times with my bike, other than the 2 corner its a decent smooth track for cars, and yes its a bit nerveracking on the bike, everything is 3 times faster.lol
Im pretty sure ill be running STOCK tires, which are the shiettiest tires in the world. (Turanzas) They slip on the dry, slip in the wet and slip even more in teh snow. ( All season) I figure this is the best way to wear the tires down so i dont feel bad about replacing new tires. How will this affect my drive?
(Im sure they are V rated tires or a high enough speed that i wont exceed on the track, besides im limited to 199 km/h anyways.)
And yeah, its a 6 SPD… Should be fun!
I cant wait till track day now!
Ill probably cry after i get the bill… 100$ track day, 50-100$ gas, replacing the stock crappy tires (Which isnt so bad after all) 1000$ ( including rims most likely).
On the other note, if my engine blows or anything goes wrong … I have a warranty and a big mouth…
tires are one of the most important things that you can’t ignore. best to try not to cheap out on tires if anything atleast get a decent set of tires like eagle f1 gs-d3 note these should not be used in winter or any cold conditions.
Hey nice 6spd yummy, as for the tires not gripping its most like because the Altima has so much damm power, lol so it would have been better if stock tires were Bridgestone, Michelin or Pirelli or Dunlop, but yea it doesn’t matter because all seasons suck a$$, but don’t get me wrong you will be having a good time even with all seasons, as far ass 199kmh, I don’t think you’ll be hitting that anywhere on this track, unless your on a bike like me, but yea your are over expecting everything, this track is almost chilling getting your feet wet, its nothing close to what you are thinking, what you are thinking is places like at mosports or speedstar or tmp.
btw nah man your engine wont blow ONLY if it’s past 5000km by then.
^^^^ that’s is very important lets just say we have had our share of new cars over the years and it is 1000% recommended that you do your first oil change and have 5000km on your odometer before you run your car free. this way your engine will last for looooong time, and if you do go with less mileage, you may not blow your engine but you will have a weak sauce and an engine that will require parts being changed from the dealer every week, and then you will think you bought a lemon.
similar with our motorcycles, when I got my 2004 gixxer I got it at about 2km “special requested” I took it and rode it hard not from first gear but 2nd to 12000 rpms, until 600km, why, so it could create enough pressure and heat to seal up the piston rings nicely and seal the cylinders tight, most of the time when and engine blows or a car becomes a lemon is because of this reason when it comes to engine lemons. That they were not properly broken in, that’s why not all cars of the same kind stay neck and neck, because some have better sealed cylinder and tighter sealed piston rings then others, but after the 600km, I have to ride slow and normal, this is when the engine starts setting everything down. And I think same goes for cars, that’s why MB does this for you before they sell their cars so their engines are always so long lasting. So yea make sure your car has over 5000km by then.
just my 2 cents…
but i really recommend that u do ur first lapping day… i know ppl say this and that are no go, u wont have as much as or w/e cuz u a on ur stk crappy all season(and i know how crappy they are cuz i get to drive them everyday…)
driving them stk for atleast one lapping day, u’ll atleast know how well ur car performs, then u can start putting money into the right department to make the car performs the way u want to.
yes the first couple lapping days might not be as fun/fast as others w/ more mods/money into their cars, but u’ll appreciate wat u’ve done to the car, drives better, and not to mention saves more money in the long run…
and i know how it felt driving a slow car on a lapping day w/ fast cars all around… i drove a stk 240 w/ minor suspension mods and crappy summer tires, everybody zoom away from me fromt the straights the corners, everywhere on the track… but i had fun, thats for sure
Yeah, i figure since the altima has 270 hp and 250 somthing TQ i have plenty of power. My only mods that im planning of are the Nismo exhaust and the rest will go to handling and putting the power to the floor. I dont think 300hp+ on a FWD is a good idea cuz ill be losing alot of power to traction /aerodynamics.
Anyways, where are the closest drag strips in and around the GTA? I want to practice launching / driving fast.
If you get rear ended, the settlement will be between you and the other person. Vice versa if you rear end someone. Track and organizers take no responsibility.
You won’t need to stay at the end of the pack, you’ll be progressing and getting faster. 1st track day, I was already lapping everyone halfway through.
Go with your stock tires, they won’t die from 3 hours of track, it’ll probably last 3 track days, I did it with my stock tires which is shit too. But it definitely teaches a lot about how your car reacts, then you can move on to better tires and have more control.
Limited to 199km/h? The fastest I’ve gone on Shannonville’s Fabi backstraight is 190km/h before I had to brake. For your car, I would say around 170. So 199 is plenty room.
btw you are givving advice comparable to your 350Z to someone with an altima, they are worlds apart the 350 Z is sexed with performance from head to toe from stock, compared to the altima. 350 is a sports car, its like me telling someone to do somtething they can’t do on their harley compared to my super street bike.
