The Trump Presidency Discussion Thread (Non-Meme version)

Corker roasts Trump

Someone just threw Russian flags at Trump and McConnell. Amazing. Video in link below.

Everyone stopped calling it collusion and started calling it opposition research now…

Today CNN is all like, ā€œWhat’s Russia? Is there a story there? We have no interest anymore.ā€

Are you guys referring to the Clinton involvement in funding the dossier?

Clinton and the DNC. Plus some unnamed Republican (Jeb Bush, 10 bucks says it Jeb) who funded it during the primary before the Dems took over funding it. The DNC spent $9 million on it and so far they’re hoping we believe no one higher than some local schmuck had any idea what it was about. Hillary, no idea. Debbie Blabbermouth, no idea. Hillary’s campaign spokesman Fallon, no idea, but he did pull a little CYA by saying he didn’t know what Clinton did or didn’t know.

Hillary fucking knew. There’s no way she didn’t.

They aren’t any better. We all know that. It’s nice to see the DNC getting some heat over the same tactics they try holding over other people’s heads but to be fair, collusion isn’t illegal. (And I said that about the Trump team as well.)

Why can’t all these fuckbags get voted out and we just start from scratch?

Collusion isn’t. Putting it down on your political donation disclosures as ā€œ9 million dollars in legal feesā€ when you actually spent it on a dossier being prepared by someone in another country however is very illegal.

The way it’s being handled in the press is the most disgusting thing though. Trump Jr meets with a Russian woman, no money, intel or favors trade hands, and the press runs non stop coverage of it for weeks. The DNC and Hillary actually pay $9 million dollars for a dossier prepared by a foreign entity, that money is hidden as ā€œlegal feesā€ to subvert campaign finance laws, and the press is like , ā€œmeh, not really a storyā€.

True. I hope SOMEONE is actually held accountable for it. You won’t see me defending these people.

I also don’t think for a second that the Trump team avoided breaking laws. How many disclosures were missed with Kushner, Flynn, etc. They need to be held accountable for what they’re doing as well.

^ If they broke the law definitely. With the number of leaks and 99% of the MSM digging at every thread they can find I’m pretty sure if any of team Trump legit broke the law someone would be charged by now though.

It’s a lot easier to stay legit when you spend $66 million of your own money, super pacs only kick in 85 million and don’t have to figure out how to funnel almost 1.2 billion into your campaign legally.

I need to correct you on this. The yet unnamed Republican didn’t fund the dossier, they hired Fusion GPS for opo research on Trump. It’s only AFTER the DNC and Hillary campaign got involved ($$$) was the dossier created by Steele.

It’s an important distinction that some in the media are ignoring to blame both sides.

Today, the FBI to Trump: ā€œYou know that Obama wanted to release the JFK files, right?ā€

Looks like it was the Washington Free Beacon who initially hired Fusion GPS. And they had nothing to do with the dossier. Again, the dossier work was started under the DNC’s & Hillary’s $$$.

All of the work that Fusion GPS provided to the Free Beacon was based on public sources, and none of the work product that the Free Beacon received appears in the Steele dossier. The Free Beacon had no knowledge of or connection to the Steele dossier, did not pay for the dossier, and never had contact with, knowledge of, or provided payment for any work performed by Christopher Steele. Nor did we have any knowledge of the relationship between Fusion GPS and the Democratic National Committee, Perkins Coie, and the Clinton campaign.

I know you guys are busy with Hillary and all, but…

Paul Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman, has been told to surrender to federal law enforcement authorities, according to several news outlets, in an apparent new phase of the investigations into figures from Trump’s inner circle.

Surprised no one posted this. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s due to other illicit activity that he was involved in and not necessarily as part of the campaign activity. . We should know the actual charge by the end of the day.

Side note: On Friday, while every other news outlet was reporting this, Sean Hannity had the exclusive breaking story about ā€˜Let There Be Light’ opening in theaters.

^ It’s been a top story on foxnews.com since it broke. It’s the headline story now that Manafort and Gates names have been released.

They’ve got them on tax evasion, which is the easiest target, so clearly they’re hoping to cut deals for someone higher up in the campaign. If there was legit Russian collusion my money is on Manafort knowing about it so we’ll have to see where this goes. My guess is they don’t touch Trump.

Jay, you don’t have to defend fox news. It was just funny to see them stay on such a garbage story while every single other news outlet moved to the Manafort story. They are biased too, ya know.

Source on tax evasion? Looks way more serious than just that:

The Justice Department charged Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman and a top aide with ā€œconspiracy against the United States,ā€ ā€œconspiracy to launder moneyā€ and other charges on Monday morning.

Edit - Better source:

https://www.justice.gov/sco

Paul J. Manafort, Jr., of Alexandria, Va., and Richard W. Gates III, of Richmond, Va., have been indicted by a federal grand jury on Oct. 27, 2017, in the District of Columbia. The indictment contains 12 counts: conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy to launder money, unregistered agent of a foreign principal, false and misleading FARA statements, false statements, and seven counts of failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts. The case was unsealed on Oct. 30, 2017, after the defendants were permitted to surrender themselves to the custody of the FBI.

But don’t worry, foxnews.com made their headline: ā€œPaul Manafort, top aide, charged with money laundering, other counts in Russia collusion probeā€

Now if I was one of the Trump circle jerkers, I’d post something cool like crickets.

But I’m not, so; What do you guys think about this? The charges on conspiracy are way beyond what I was expecting. Not to mention Gates stayed with the campaign and was part of the inaugural committee. There was smoke. Now there’s fire. Was the raid on Manafort’s house still a distraction/nothingburger?

The interesting part is that it goes back to 2006. I’m wondering how much activity took place then versus during the campaign. Either way, Manafort and Gates are fucked.

And top it off with the George Papadopoulos story. This is a shit show.

I’ll admit this is pretty serious. I still don’t think it will reach Trump because the stuff they’re looking at is pre-Trump. Clearly they’re hoping to leverage that for something that gets them a bigger fish though.

I’ve also been swamped today at work so this is the first chance I’ve had to even hit NYSpeed since this morning. Haven’t had time to read anything about the indictment either (was honestly hoping there would be more discussion here to look at first).

I don’t think we don’t know the details yet on whether or not Manafort and Gates we’re involved in illegal activity during the campaign, but I’m going to guess that they were. (Unless there’s something I missed that shows they weren’t.)

The statement from Papadopoulos also talks about his communication with Russian officials and specifically saying not to have DT himself come to meetings because of the risk. I really hope we learn more soon.

I’ve maintained this position for a while but I’ll repeat it;
There’s nothing wrong with the ACTUAL republican platform, but Donald Trump is not the right guy to lead a political party let alone a nation.

Manifort was only brought on to the Trump campaign for the convention because of his experience at conventions and getting his clients the nomination, then he was out.

To go from this: https://www.justice.gov/file/1007271/download … which does not mention Trump, or the 2016 election at all, to the conclusion that ā€œthis looks bad for Trumpā€ is quite the jump.

Seriously, read that indictment and tell me what part of it has anything to do with Trump.

      • Updated - - -

Again, read the indictment. This charge is a catch-all for counts 3 through 6 and 10 though 12 which are failing to file over $10,000 in financial interests involving more that $100,000 in 12 months. And for lying about it.

This does NOT mean ā€œOMG there was a conspiracy between Trump and the Russians!ā€
