The Right is speculating that it exposes how the Obama administration used the dossier, paid for by the DNC, to get the FISA warrant which lead to the surveillance of the Trump campaign (and tower.) And then justified the unmasking of Trump officials (Flynn for example) the same way.
The Mueller investigation would be impacted because the premise for the investigation would be compromised; Non-verified information in a document purchased by the DNC is the source of the “collusion” claims.
The left has been kinda quite on it. I’ve read one statement from a Democrat saying that it “grossly overstates” the issues.
Wikileaks is offering a load of cash for someone to leak it. If it doesn’t get leaked, we’ll probably know in about out a week. Unless this is so damaging that those involved work out a deal, but with the public response (and media silence) I’m not sure how that’ll go over.
It’s pretty telling that the vote to release it went right down party lines. Can’t be anything good in that memo for the Democrats if they’re fighting to keep the public from seeing it. Come on Wikileaks.
Just want to point out that it was initiated and funded by a conservative website and taken over by the DNC/HRC campaign once Trump became the Republican nominee. Not that it makes it better but it’s a detail that people tend to gloss over.

Do we KNOW that the investigation was started on the premise of the dossier? I didn’t think it was since we now know that the FBI was already aware of certain aspects in the dossier that Fusion? had approached the FBI about in the past, before the dossier became public. Meaning there was a completely separate reason for an investigation by the FBI and that could be what triggered the Mueller probe instead. (Or they might try to play it like that.)
This thing better get released. For fuck’s sake everything else certainly seems to leak out of this administration I’m sure they’ll find a way for this to get out too.
Who paid for it might not be relevant anyway. The released SIC interview seemed to indicate that Steele took the dossier to the FBI on his own accord, not by influence of the DNC. Doesn’t really matter though.
Regardless of who or why it was handed to the FBI, they have the obligation to obtain objective, corroborated evidence to back-up the claims made, before taking any action. Information from a private party, which doesn’t include HARD evidence should not be used to obtain FISA warrants for wire tapping or un-masking.
I have a hard time believing that this FISA memo would indicate that the investigation was started on the premise of the dossier. I’m saying that there was likely other activity as to why and the dossier happened to be taking place around the same time. We’ll see.
The Washington Free Beacon’s role ended before Trump was even the nominee. None of the alleged “Russian” connections were made by Fusion during that time, only after the DNC started paying them.
So I’m not glossing it over; I’m not including it at all because it’s irrelevant.
Do we KNOW that the investigation was started on the premise of the dossier?
Not yet. But if not, then the question is what else could it be? There was a theory about Papadopoulos in a bar, but that didn’t pan out.
Either there was something else that we don’t yet know about… or it was the dossier.

Bingo. +100
And just like that, there was agreement and peace in the world
I only posted that because you felt the need to add that it was funded by the DNC, which is also irrelevant. Gotta be fair and balanced, that’s all.
The political party in power paying for unsubstantiated “evidence” that may have led to domestic spying on the opposing political party during an election is irrelevant?
So for those reading this that have never paid attention to a government shut down before and are wondering what happened, here is some basic info:
They need 60 votes. Otherwise they can’t get cloture, which basically means it can be filibustered / blocked by the minority.
Republicans only have 51 Senators. So as least 9 Democrats are needed. Remember, this isn’t a simple majority vote.
Schumer said he wouldn’t let any Dems vote yes unless there was a DACA fix included. But this is a CR, a “Continuing Resolution” for government funding. It’s not immigration legislation.
BTW DACA doesn’t even expire until March 5th after Trump extended it.
So Dems and the some media are out there saying “Republicans hold the House, Senate and White House! It’s their fault!” but they’re playing off people’s ignorance of the Senate process.
The media can spin it all they want but when even a CNN poll yesterday said the majority of Americans did not think DACA was worth a government shutdown the dems own this. Despite the hysteria from both sides I doubt it will matter though because people will have long forgotten by election time.
This is on Trump. In any business the responsibility has to be at the top. Problems start from the top, they have to get solved from the top, and he’s the leader. So he’s got to get everyone together and be a leader.
EDIT - Apparently I need to add something so people realize this is a joke. See this post for reference.
To say this is on Trump is just wrong. If anything, the blame can be placed on everyone, but to single Trump out is just flat out lazy on anyone’s part.
A normal business doesn’t operate like politics, sorry.
Why does Daca matter so much to leverage it against hard working people? Is it because the Dems know that the only way they will get their way is to pick a topic to leverage against that they know will have to be decided on sooner than later?
They actually think that leveraging hardworking Americans against the rights of illegal immigrants won’t be forgotten about?
You could blame Trump if he was the boss and could make this call on his own, but he can’t. He needs them to vote and they need to come together on this.
This isn’t a dictatorship, it’s a democratic republic. I’m not 100% GO TEAM TRUMP but I think that blaming one single man for this is just ignorant. This is the combination of many divisive and lobbied individuals all saying “wahhh” about every single thing that they could possibly whine about.
i was almost going to start a new NAFTA thread, i think we probably should discuss it quite thoroughly but i’ll start here:
Before this article i was not aware that the US was lobbying to increase the daily limit up to $800 for Canadians bringing back items into Canada.
this would be incredible for me and save me a lot of money because i shop so often in the US. It would also be terrible for Canada but mostly because of the added taxes we endure to have nice things (presumably they are nice, well yes of course they are).
This to me is another bold example of strong America First policy but also once that is fairer. Can any of you gents comment on what the limits are when you bring items back to the US purchased in canada?
If this were to pass it would be quite a jolt to the buffalo economy as it would remove probably the largest barrier or inconvenience Canadians face when they go cross-border shopping. This is why i think this issue probably deserves its own thread.
Had to change some words and correct the grammar, but I agree with you magnificent bastards.
Although, I should add that he certainly played a part in negotiations failing. I still haven’t had time to dig into the sequence of events but this whole thing is a god damn circus.
