Maybe I am biased based on my employment but seriously if you cant afford to spend an extra few hundred dollars a year to live and travel “normally” you probably should look for a better job or adjust your spending habits.
Its not the daily travel that its killing.
Anyone here into local motorsports?
The car counts are down at most of the tracks because people cant afford to haul the car there, pay for the gas in the race car, admission and haul it home again.
Racing has always been a money losing hobby, but When it starts costing 200 a weekend, whos got an extra 800 + they don’t know what to do with every month?
Its called prioritization…but you have a typical American philosophy.
You dont need to go to every event…pick one or 2 that are the biggest/best tracks and do that.
Also you should be able to easily afford your hobbies or they are not really worthwhile regardless of how much you enjoy them.
Our country is spoiled. We’ve been paying <$2/gallon for our entire lives. Thus people do things that the rest of the world can’t dream of, like live 30 miles from work and drive a 4000 pound vehicle there. Then when gas gets more expensive, although way cheaper than it is in most of the world, that becomes economically difficult we panic while the rest of the world goes “yeah no shit sherlock.”
I spent a couple of weeks in Uruguay in the summer of 2006. Gas was around $6/gallon and the country isn’t quite third world, but close. Not rich. Guess what, everyone drives small cars. I saw a VW Bora (Jetta) on the road and it stuck out like a sore thumb because it was so big.
But heaven forbid we sacrifice…
Says the guy who drives a 4500 pound 260hp SUV to work. :fail: At least I live close.
that doesnt work when you run the circle track circuits.
you gotta run every week to have a chance at a championship.
LOL@ fry, that will never happen in america, the land of the free and safe where a civic weighs 3200lbs.
Small cars almost dont exist anymore.
Says the guy who drives a 4500 pound 260hp SUV to work. :fail: At least I live close.
Edit. I am an idiot and forgot you have an Xterra…lol
Are you referring to me on that? lol…I do about 45k a year so Believe me spending 120 bux a week on gas isnt the most fun I have spending $ but its what it takes to collect a paycheck.
Well if a local track racing championship is that important to you, you will have to better budget other things or get a 2nd job.
Everyone bitches with zero action or changes in their lifestyle.
The bottom line is people need to learn to live within their means. And realistically gas is still fairly cheap based on the incomes people make.
10 years ago when I was in HS…gas was 98 cents a gallon and Min wage was 4.15 I think.
Now gas is 3.65 and min wage is 7.25 I think :gotme:
Everything is increased at a fairly equal ratio
Naw I was referring to myself, but I guess you suck too.
I support the economy at my $6400 for fuel and then $300 in oil changes per year lol
The bottom line is you will always need gas in your car, you cant go to work with out gas, you cant pay for your food/mortgage/rent without that paycheck. Lets all boycott the country for gas and “Yeah, we will show them!!”
Lets all bitch about our taxes when every other country in the world doesnt even come close to what we have here in America.
so gas quadrupled and min wage less than doubled. evenness not found. And the other countries that pay a lot more for gas get a lot more out of it. Like free healthcare. Take a look on your check at what your employer spends on that if you want to compare apples to apples.
omg… this is still going?
and
373% =! 171%
I was never good at math but my point was that everything has gone up. Things cost more $ and people make more $.
Percentages…schermentages!
lol.
But you’re talking about it pacing things such as income levels, or specifically min wage… its a commodity with is market controlled. Its not as if it is tied directly to inflation or anything.
meh.
I don’t bitch about prices, because I have to use the fuel regardless.
I’m all for bitching about this moronic tax holiday though.
As far as other countries go, their government is better equiped to deal with higher fuel costs. Better public transportation, more efficient vehicles (i.e. more diesel vehicle choices).
psssh…have u seen what a large pizza and 20 wings cost!!!
:ohnoes:
Plus i didnt say that it was pacing it exactly but its not like gas is 4 bux a gallon and people are making 3 bux an hour.
But you gotta remember that mozz has never really dropped back to “madcow” prices from 4-5 years ago… I remeber when mozz hit $2.30+ / lb, the owner of a shop that I work many years at was :ohnoes:, telling me that it was never gonna drop back below that point, regardless of “supply”.
And… fuel plays into EVERYTHING. Cycso & USFoods & the rest have to charge more to cover transport expenses, which means the 'ria has to charge more for Pie, so on, so on.
meh. I’m outta here in 10 minutes, gotta go clean up my desk.
Some of us remember paying .89 per gallon back in 1987.
hell, i remember paying $.87 at the res in 97-98ish
:word: I remember 93 was 1.29 for like a year at the Atlantic station on Robinson & NFB…i had to fill my parents’ caddy all the time because they didn’t feel like pumping it
