What was the price in 1980? $1.33/L is still cheaper and faster than busing to work.
so it doesn’t bother you, that you’re paying .60$/l more than you were a month or 2 ago?
gimmi a break. has the price of a barrel trippled in the past few months? nope. infact the price of crude is int the mid $60 range again. yet gas is at recod highs…
1.00 was high, 1.30$ is way to much. I don’t care, i will not drive until prices come down to below $1.00/l
i wait to see what happens in the comming months with the price of fuel, what the public resorts too. welcome to the next 5-20 years people ad this is just the begining.
It does bother me that the price of gas is so high, but theres nothing I can
do about it.
Worrying and crying over it won’t do me any good, so why bother? I’d
rather just accept the fact and live life… it sucks but so does alot of other
stuff. Its not worth getting upset over, if I get mad and cry about it, its
not going to change the price.
Well andrew, im pissed about it 8) , but you are right we cant do anything about it. Ive just started to conserve gas more, and i walk to somewhere if it is close.
everyone stop driving so much they will be forced to lower gas prices
Ew sohc? Unless it was just mine but it was a gas guzzler. That whore engine sucked down all my gas I’m so glad I went dohc.
yeah it’s not a gas guzzler
i get pretty good milage out of it now.
Its not only consumers that use gas. All the large trucks, airplanes, work
vehicles, etc use gas to, and they cannot just stop driving so much.
Even if people cut down on the amount they drive, theres still a ton of oil
and fuel consumed by industrial users. Even if everyone drove only to
work and back, gas companies don’t have to lower prices, because they
know you’ll buy it anyways.
Today’s idea: buy stock in undervalued oil companies and use the capital
gains / dividends to offset the cost of gas.
Fuel alternative is the only solution.
Electric engines, biodiesel, vegetable oil etc etc.
I want my folks to get a Smart Car.
to add to what andrew said:
Gasoline has one of the most inelastic demand curves of any commerical product, meaning that no matter what the price of gas is people will still buy it.
Oil companies know this
gas prices have been increasing steadily for a couple years now anyways but the rich white men who own them know that they could double the price and no one would stop buying the stuff. so why not do it?
the reason that gas prices were not this high before is because if gas prices were inflated by so much for no apparent reason there would be a little bit of an outcry.
If gas prices were inflated and justified by the war in iraq or some shit then there would be slightly more of an outcry because of peoples disapproval for that whole bunch of bullshit.
however, no one can protest the hurricane and the damage it causes. for that reason the oil companies incerase prices because they can and because no one will take action against them because they justify the increase with a horrible catastrophe.
if peoples protest the increase the response will be:
but we have to send support to the people in New Orleans
dont you support the people in new orleans?
this statement is supposed to sound alot like the following:
dont you support our troops?
its a meaningless statement that diverts the point to something relevant only under another subject altogether.
the looting IS going on, but it isnt even a surprise. if there was a jewelry store in your neighbourhood and no consequenses to your looting it then you probably would if you were poor.
i personally WOULD loot that store just because there would be no consequences and because it would be sorta fun.
but the whole looting and all this Kanye West says Bush hates black people is just a bunch of bullshit that the major news networks are focusing on because it diverts peoples attention to the fact that the cost of refinign oil has not increased, just the price and profits.
Oil companies have as diversified portfolios as the Bush family, intended comparison, and can easily push their weight around to contructively create what you see on TV.
all media is meant to create the emotions you feel about every situation and to blind you from other issues…
in short, gas prices will not go down because there is no reason to lower them if people will pay this price.
if the government reduces their taxes on gasoline (nearly 40%) then the gas companies will just raise it more to make even more money.
so either the government takes the $$$ and pretends to spend it on healthcare but realyl steals it to make more rich white men, or the rich white men who own the oil companies steal it to make themselves richer so that they can buy nice cars and make videos racing them around.
the only solution is terrorism, sorry.
It’s not THAT much of a conspiracy…it’s still a business.
When 80% of the U.S. oil operations are shut down due to Katrina, yeah, supply-demand says the price is going to go up. They haven’t had sufficient time to fully analyze the damage to oil facilities and pipelines.
I’m just worried about what the projectionists are saying - the trend continuing. Oil reaching $100 U.S. per barrel. That would not be good.
Filling up at 129.1 today I was wondering whether or not I was getting a deal. No one can really know where this is going, but analysts say it’s not looking too good.
The way I see it, once oil operations are back to normal, the prices should return at the very least to the 80-90’s, ideally lower, as IMPROVEMENTS to the messed up system are made, but I have an inkling that greed may rule out that option.
As it stands, INSURANCE remains a much larger annoyance for me. Until gas prices go over $2/L, i’m going to feel the same way.
i say we attack now and take over the us while their weak and half their soldiers are oversea’s
whos with me?
 I’m with u Jesse.
Andrew and bing have very complete, very good replies, and I agree with them.
To those who believe that if you stop buying gas it will actually make a difference, think again. When bing says that the oil companies have a very diversivied portfolio, he is dead on. Kids, remember that you need crude oil in production of any chemical substances such as plastics, rubber, etc etc etc.
As for the government reducing the taxes, they won’t do it. They are making a tremendous amount of money from these high gas prices. Maybe if they would introduce a fixed tax, lets say theoretically $.20 per liter no matter what the gas price is, then it could reduce our prices a bit, but in the long run the prices of crude oil will continue rising so get used to it and find an econobox, or better a vehicle that utilizes alternative energy sources as a daily driver.
evereyone killthemselfs and gas will be cheaper
yea i wish i bought some oil stock last week. fuck.
It dipped below a dollar here…
I managed to fill at 96.1 regular at a Sunoco. Anyone else?
Im payin 1.25 for REGULAR!
Where the hell do you live? i saw gas for 99.1 today, and that was the highest.
Filled up the family van for 99.9 and my car with Sunoco 94 for $1.13.8. Not to shabby and at least the price is coming down. According to the guy at Esso the price should’nt be going over a dollar and may even come down lower. So that’s good news for me considering I can really only run 91 or higher.
Where the hell do you live? i saw gas for 99.1 today, and that was the highest.
Thunder Bay. 16 hours to the west, on lake Superior. I dont have the heart to check what 91 is at.
