I’m going to be looking into getting an exhaust system for my car pretty soon (whether I get one that just bolts right up or have one made is still TBD). heres the dilemma I have: the one thing i never liked about the '04 GTOs was that they have true dual exhaust, but the passenger side pipe crosses over the axle and both come out the drivers side. I’d really like to have duals out both sides, so I have a couple options here:
There are templates available so that you can cut out the other side of the rear bumper and I can have an exhaust system made up (apparently I am not the only person to have this crazy idea to cut the bumper). I have looked under the car, and it will work without structurally damaging anything. The downside to this would be the risk i take in possibly screwing this up and ruining my bumper. It would also be impossible to put the car back to stock should i want to.
The other option is just get a pre-made cat back system and keep the true dual/one side exit setup.
this is a pic of what the back of my car looks like:
yeah i just looked that up on the GTO board. prob going to end up going with cutting the bumper and getting those inserts. that seems to be the cleanest way of doing it, although i think $150 for those inserts is a lot of money, but they look good so i’ll pay it.
